Do you find it hard to study your lessons in school? Do you have the difficulty in retaining information into your memory? Do you often get unsatisfying results in tests? Cast your worries away for surely the following tips may help you enhance your memory and promotes quick and accurate understanding of your lessons in school. All you need to do is to take note of the 3 C’s:
- Chocolate– Everybody is making chocolate and wine as past time snacks without knowing it has memory enhancing effect! According to Henriette Van Praag, PhD, of the Salk Institute, and colleagues there and at Mars, Inc., chocolate has the compound, Epicatechin, which is one of a group of chemicals known as flavonoid. Flavonoid has been has been proven to improve cardiovascular function in people and increase blood flow in the brain. They further found out that epicatechin enables greater blood vessel growth in the dentate gyrus and also developed more mature nerve cells, suggesting an enhanced ability of the cells to communicate thus promoting sharp memory.
- Coffee (Caffeine)– It is not just the usual arousing effect that caffeine offer, surprisingly it can also be a memory enhancer! Lee Ryan, UA assistant professor of psychology, the lead author of the Psychological Science published on January 2002 says that memory is often at optimal levels early in the morning but tends to decline as the day progresses. An experiment conducted by the research group is designed by one group given 12-ounce cups of regular coffee containing approximately 220 to 270 mg of caffeine and a control group given decaffeinated coffee, which usually has no more than 5-10 mg of caffeine per serving. The researchers found that participants who drank decaffeinated coffee “showed a significant decline in memory performance from morning to afternoon.” The group who ingested the caffeine showed no decline in performance on the memory tests. Furthermore the University of Birmingham research suggests that caffeine can boost the nerve cell activity of the brain potentially protecting against memory loss.
- Coitus-This term is concealment of the word “sex”. Believe it or not, sex is believed to enhance your brain processes. During sex, happy hormones are secreted and these hormones promote faster cell communication and pleasurable feelings thus making it an extra-ordinary memory enhancer!
However, memory formation is influence by a number of external factors including lifestyle, genetics and even interpersonal interest! The 3C’s cannot guarantee immediate alteration to your memory formation. It could be effective to some and it could also be ineffective to others.
