The holidays are right around the corner and ’tis the season to glam up your look with some runway-inspired beauty trends and color palettes. The fall 2012 and winter 2013 runways featured several luxe designs and shimmering hues, and these trends are spilling over into the beauty arena with metallic smoky eye looks, effervescent skin, and rich pigmented palettes. It’s the year of smoldering and dramatic eyes, sculpted brows, and full lips. For the holiday 2012 season, you’ll definitely want to try a few sultry and seductive looks, and add some glitter and shimmer to the mix.
Here are three of the hottest holiday 2012 makeup trends to play with this season:
#1: Nouveau Purples
This is one of my favorite looks for the season and is actually very versatile. You can wear a shimmering purple shade on the lower lids by day, then glam things up with loose glitter and darker-pigmented purple and grey shades by night. Sephora has unveiled the Nouveau Purples collection just in time for the holidays and the collection includes a lineup of beautiful purple pigments and sultry hues that are easy to layer with. Create those dramatic eyes using pewter, silver, shimmering beige, and even navy as a base, then layer with a shimmering purple hue. Check out my eye makeup beauty tutorial using the Victoria’s Secret “Overnight Sensation” Eyeshadow Quad. This palette has a dark purple shade that’s perfect for creating the smoky eye look for the holidays.
#2: Hollywood Glam
Bold red lips, porcelain skin, defined brows, and crisp lines around the eyes help to create the signature Hollywood Glam look. Play up this look with the M.A.C. Cosmetics Marilyn Monroe Collection, released this past fall. The collection includes a series of highly-pigmented powder eye shadows to create a classic iridescent eye, as well as rich pigmented lip shades for that picture-perfect Hollywood bombshell look.
#3: Oriental Chic
Create a globally-inspired makeup look this holiday season with Eastern-influenced color palettes and a touch of shimmer. The Guerlain Holiday 2012 Makeup Collection features a beautiful lip and eye color palette with shimmering eye shadow pigments and rich red and orange tone lip colors. Apply the eye shadows with a wet brush to create a high-drama look and use a matte black eyeliner or soft kohl liner to create a thicker line around the eyes. The ‘LIU Holiday Collection’ Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette is a must-have for the holiday season and you’ll find you can easily layer other shades and products with the base shades in this set.
