4 Vegan-Friendly Face Masks You Can Make at Home

by pop tug

Face masks are an essential part of any good skincare routine, as they provide a deep clean or an extra boost of hydration not available in traditional washes or toners. However, it can be difficult for vegans to find affordable face mask options in drug stores that are free of animal-derived ingredients and have not been tested on animals.

As an alternative to buying overpriced masks through cruelty-free retailers, you can easily make your own vegan-friendly mask using nothing but fresh, all-natural ingredients from your kitchen. These recipes are 100% cruelty-free, and contain no harsh chemicals or synthetic additives. With regular use of one of these masks, you should see a major improvement in the overall quality and appearance of your complexion.

Oatmeal and Soy Yogurt

This vegan twist on a classic skincare recipe is suitable for all skin types and takes only a few seconds to prepare. Simply combine a tablespoon of organic oatmeal with a tablespoon of soy yogurt and mix the two ingredients together to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and allow it to set for 10 minutes, then rinse away with warm water. The oats will help exfoliate your pores while also absorbing excess oil while the soy yogurt helps hydrate your skin.

Olive Oil, Coffee and Cocoa

For dry skin in major need of some TLC, this mask is an excellent choice. Olive oil is very similar to the oils naturally produced by your skin, so you don’t have to worry about it clogging up your pores. Simply mix four tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with two tablespoons of ground espresso and two tablespoons of cocoa powder (choose an organic one with no whey or other dairy derivitives). Mix the ingredients to form a thick paste, and apply the mixture all over your face. Let the mask dry completely, then rinse away with warm water. The coffee and cocoa will exfoliate dead skin cells while also reducing puffiness, leaving your complexion looking bright and clean.

Avocado, Orange Juice and Olive Oil

Avocados are rich in an assortment of essential vitamins and nutrients, including vitamin K and vitamin E. Combined with the vitamin C naturally found in oranges and the hydrating properties of olive oil, this is a great mask for combination skin. Simply mash a ripe avocado and mix with a teaspoon of fresh squeezed orange juice and a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil. Spread the mixture over your face and allow it to set for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

Strawberries and Rice Milk

Salicylic acid is one of the most popular ingredients in over-the-counter face washes, and strawberries are a natural source of it. If you have acne-prone skin, this is one of the best masks you can make at home. Simply mash six strawberries and add 1/2 tablespoon of organic rice milk to make a paste. Apply it to your skin and allow it to set for 15 minutes before rinsing it away with warm water. The strawberries will help clear up acne and blemishes while the rice milk will help hydrate dull, dry skin.
