The fourth of July evokes imagery of fireworks, backyard barbecues and spending time with friends and family in the summer heat. What many Americans overlook is that before the barbecues and pool parties, July 4th was and forever will remain a patriotic holiday celebrating America’s independence from British rule. This year, show off your patriotic spirit with some songs that celebrate America.
“God Bless America” as performed by Kate Smith
There are few versions of “God Bless America” that can induce chills quite like Kate Smith’s 1976 performance can. Her booming voice and glowing smile are truly beautiful and this performance only heightens the pride I feel for my country.
“Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen
“Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen is another song that is sure to go well at just about any 4th of July party. See if you can resist the edgy guitar and raw vocals of “The Boss.” Springsteen still pleases crowds decades after his heyday.
“Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” by Toby Keith
Few songs will get your 4th of July party jumping quite like “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” by Toby Keith can. The song is energetic, patriotic and simply put; no 4th of July party is complete without it.
“Star Spangled Banner” as performed by Jimi Hendrix
The “Star Spangled Banner” has been sung countless times but no version rocks as hard as Jimi Hendrix’ performance at Woodstock. If you can make it through the song without having goose bumps, you better get your pulse checked.
“American Pie” by Don McLean
Turn on “American Pie” by Don McLean at your 4th of July barbecue and be prepared to watch your guests sing the lyrics out loud and dance along to the music. Chock full of American culture of yesteryear; “American Pie” is a welcome addition to the 4th of July playlist.
“Ragged Old Flag” by Johnny Cash
One of the most patriotic songs I have ever heard comes in the form of “Ragged Old Flag” by Johnny Cash. Prepare to have your heart swell with pride upon listening to this old favorite.
“American Soldier” by Toby Keith
A song that firmly salutes all U.S. soldiers is the Toby Keith song “American soldier.” The song is touching, powerful and abundantly relevant.
“Coming to America” by Neil Diamond
“Coming to America” by Neil Diamond is an upbeat and welcome addition to the 4th of July playlist. This song will be sure to have your guests up dancing and singing in no time.
