“As long as you take your pills every day, it doesn’t matter what time you take them.”

Taking your birth control pill at the same time every day is an important part of making sure that your birth control remains as effective as possible.
“It’s okay to miss a pill.”
Although birth control may still be effective even if you miss a pill, it isn’t a good idea to make it a habit. Missing a pill can decrease the effectiveness of your birth control and increase the chances of an unplanned pregnancy occurring. If you’ve missed a pill, it’s probably a good idea to use a back up birth control method, such as condoms.
“Medications won’t interfere with birth control.”
There are medications, such as certain antibiotics, that can decrease the effectiveness of birth control. It is important to discuss the use of any medications with your physician to make sure they won’t interact with your birth control. If you must take medications that interact with your birth control, using a back up method, such as condoms, may be necessary to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.
“All birth control pills are the same.”
Although birth control pills are quite similar to one another, they are not interchangeable. If you forget your pills at home and your friend offers you one of hers, it won’t work the way you might think it would. Don’t ever swap out pills, as it could decrease the effectiveness of your birth control.
“Birth control pills will make you gain weight.”
Although some women do gain weight while taking birth control pills, clinical studies have shown that just as many women lose weight as gain weight while on the pill. Although weight gain may be undesirable, it is likely related to water retention and a woman’s individual hormonal changes throughout her cycle. Weight gain while taking birth control pills may not necessarily be because of the birth control.
