The summer is flying by and it is almost time to go back to school. College dorm shopping can be a crazy and difficult experience. However, for those of you who are going to college (and dorming), here are some items that you will not regret buying.
The first item that you should definitely have is a pair of reusable earplugs. Whether you are in your dorm room or even hiding out in the library, you are bound to run into noisy people who will distract you from studying or sleeping. Reusable ear plugs will come in handy whenever noise levels become too unbearable or distracting. You will be able to study in peace and be able to sleep easier if you are living in a dorm.
Another thing that you need to pick-up is a hand or stick vacuum. Whether you are typically a messy person or a clean person, your dorm room will get messy easily. Having a small hand vacuum is extremely useful when you drop snacks on the carpet (or your roommates do). It is also great since some colleges do not lend out vacuums or require you to wait for vacuums if other students are using them. Trust me, you will not regret this purchase. It will allow you to keep your dorm clean, especially if you have friends or family members coming to visit, but do not have the space to store a bulky vacuum in your dorm room.
In addition to ear plugs and vacuums, you should pick up some sandwich baggies. Often times, you may get hungry throughout the day and will not be in or near your dorm room. An example of this could be if you are in class or between classes and hear your stomach start to growl. You do not want to carry around large bags of chips or pretzels. Instead, if you pick up sandwich bags, you can pack easy to-go snacks and simply store them in your backpack and take them out when you get hungry.
Also, do not forget to buy a five-draw rolling cart. They are relatively cheap and can fit a whole lot of stuff in them. Move-in day can be rough, but this cart is on wheels which makes it easy to travel with. The cart is great if you want to store school supplies and even beauty supplies (girls). The cart helps eliminate dorm room clutter and keeps your stuff somewhat organized throughout the school year.
Similarly, do not make the mistake of getting a laundry hamper that you have to drag down the hall. Do yourself a huge favor and purchase a laundry hamper on wheels. Yes, these hampers are a little bit more expensive than the normal ones. However, they are definitely worth the extra money. When you have a ton of laundry that needs to be done, just put it in your hamper and wheel it into the elevator. This is the best! Also, when you move in or out of your dorm during the year, you can use this hamper on wheels to transport heavier items that you may not be able to carry otherwise.
I hope this article has helped you get a better idea of which items you should buy for college. College dorm shopping can be very overwhelming, but these are some must-have items that you will definitely use during your college years! So, what are you waiting for? Hit the stores!
