The Borderlands video game series is known for its quirky sense of humor. As a Vault Hunter, players meet all sorts of strange and interesting characters. However, some of the strangest parts of Borderlands 2 are its optional side missions. While some are straightforward, other are brimming with odd requests. Here are the weirdest side missions in Borderlands 2.
Claptrap’s Birthday Bash
The annoying, but lovable robot Claptrap wants you to help him invite citizens of Sanctuary to his birthday party. At first, this seems like a timed mission that would have you running all over the city trying to beat the clock. Instead, the timer starts after you invited everyone and head back to the party. Nobody but you and Claptrap show up. For two minutes, the Vault Hunter must stay with Claptrap and endure the most depressing birthday bash ever.
You Are Cordially Invited
While Claptrap’s party was awkward, Tiny Tina’s tea party is just strange. First you must gather the party-goers, like Sir Reginald who is a baby Varkid in a jar, and the doll with a live grenade for a head, Princess Fluffybutt. The mission gets even weirder when you get the guest of honor, a bandit named Flesh-Stick. You must lure him to Tina’s by shooting at him while he chases you. After Flesh-Stick is seated, waves of bandits arrive. Of course, you must stop them from crashing the party.
Torture Chairs
One of the things that makes this side mission weird is its deceptive description. The neurotic Dr. Tannis gives out this “Impossible” level 25 mission when your level is around 20, making you think leveling up multiple times is in order before attempting it. However, the mission is ridiculously easy, as all you need to do is gather ECHO recordings from around Sanctuary. The recordings themselves are also odd. In the recordings Dr. Tannis is being tortured, but she only cares about the fate of her two “friends,” ceiling chairs she named Clark and Philippe.
A Real Boy
In a reference to Pinocchio, there’s a robot in Eridium Blight who needs your help to become a real boy. You “help” by killing bandits and taking everything from their clothes to their body parts. The funniest and strangest thing about this mission is what the robot says about becoming human like “I can’t wait to have a mortgage!” Also, he carelessly slaps on the body parts, making one leg backwards and having a Psycho mask placed on his chest.
Shoot this Guy in the Face
During a main mission in Thousand Cuts, you can find a quick, but strange side quest. A bandit runs up to the Vault Hunter and begs you to shoot in him in the face. If you complete this odd request, you hear a “thank you.” You also earn the achievement “Well, that was easy.”
Borderlands 2 is filled with strange side missions, from quick and easy ones to ones with multiple parts. However, each of them showcase the video game’s great sense of humor. Now that the DLC has begun releasing, there is certain to be more weird missions on the horizon.
