The Royal Floral Ratchaphruek Festival is one of the exciting events to see in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Celebrating His Majesty, the King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th birthday, Her Majesty, the Queen Sirikit’s 80th birthday and His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince’s Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th anniversary, the festival runs from December to March.
This is not only a Flower Festival but a significant event for furthering the understanding of global warming, soil conservation, and to promote an efficient use of resources by reduction, reuse and recycling around the world.
With over 30 countries participating, the conferences and exhibits are an extraordinary assortment of the latest information as well as an exchange of techniques and research in this field.
It is an awakening of the possibilities of the measures that can be done and encouragement to follow this path to save the planet and act responsibly. The festival provides an education and a large number of things to do.
One of the highlights of the festival is the nightly Electric Parade with illuminated floats. Their beautiful designs and imaginative themes light up the night.

The Imagination Light Garden creates an illuminated garden with glow-in-the-dark butterflies. The Royal Floral Ratchaphruek is named after Ratchaphruek, the Golden Shower Tree, the national flower of Thailand. The name has a noble meaning- “A Royal Tree” and its yellow blossoms are knows as the color of glory and its yellow blossoms are regarded as the color of glory and the color of Buddhism.
