For many people, memories are triggered by the smallest thing; whether it is something we smell, hear, or even taste. ‘Till this very day the music that I hear from the classic Nintendo video game Super Mario Bros. brings back many fond memories. However, it wasn’t the first video game I ever played. My parents bought my older brother an Atari 7800. We used to play games like Joust (which was my absolute favorite on Atari) and Donkey Kong.
It wasn’t until after the first Nintendo Entertainment System was released and the very first time I played Super Mario Bros that I was hooked. I played that game all the time and eventually continued to follow that game with Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Bros 3. The very first system I ever owned was when my parents surprised me with buying me a Sega Genesis. They realized I was playing games more than my brother was and decided to buy me my first system. My brother was super jealous that they bought me a Genesis, but he was always my gaming buddy so it didn’t matter. When I got the Sega Genesis, I was quickly hooked on playing Sonic the Hedgehog. The music from the very first Sonic game is classic and always brings a smile on my face when I hear it. I love those old school games so much I even have the music to them on my iPod. I followed every Sonic game ever created after, but was highly disappointed in the way they make them today. They don’t beat the originals. I continuously stayed a Nintendo and Sega fan for years although I never purchased another Sega system, but I continued to play games they created.
Once the Sony Playstation first came out I discovered my love for Role Playing Games when I played Final Fantasy VII for the first time. I have continuously played every Final Fantasy game since and ’till this very day am still a huge fan of the series. I am also a follower of the Resident Evil series, Tomb Raider, Need for Speed, and Tekken. It wasn’t until I owned my first XBOX when I became a big shooter fan. I followed and owned every Halo and Gears of War game. I also own a Nintendo Wii and have purchased just about every Mario game that ever came out because ’till this very day I never stopped loving Mario. When they re-released the old classics for the Wii I was one of the first people to get it. If it wasn’t for the Mario Bros., I wouldn’t be the gamer I am today and if it wasn’t for my parents buying me Sega Genesis and my first Sony Playstation, I wouldn’t have continued to become the gamer I am today.
There is nothing I enjoy doing more during any free time I may have. The games that I play are limitless. I’ll try just about any game and am very impressed with how much they have changed from the old games. Video games are my escape from reality the way watching a movie would be. This is why one of my favorite styles of games to play is role playing games because just like reading a really good book; you can get lost in a good story just the same, but have control over what happens to the character. There is always something thrilling and exciting to discover in a good video game.
