“Academy Awards Fashions”- What Did the Stars Wear to the 84th Academy Awards?

by pop tug

Part of the excitement of any event is seeing what the stars are wearing especially at the 84th Academy Awards. Las Vegas had the privilege of participating in the Academy Awards Oscar Night Las Vegas-style at the Palms Hotel and Casino, held in the lobby of the Brenden Theater’s complex.

Some of the most luxurious, extravagant and daring fashions were worn by the nominees and stars at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and here along the Las Vegas Red Carpet.

Meryl Streep, Academy Award winner for Iron Lady, celebrated Oscar Night wearing a draped golden lame Lanvin gown with a woven gold and strass chain link belt. In addition to being beautiful, the gown was eco-friendly. This was the first time designer Lanvin created a custom-made eco- gown from an eco-certified fabric sourced from Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge.

Viola Davis, Best Actress nominee for “The Help”, wore a green strapless gown designed by Vera Wang. Viola’s pleated skirt was set off by an embroidered neckline while her accessories included a diamond cuff and emerald earrings.

Michelle Williams, Best Actress nominee for “My Week with Marilyn”, looked stunning in a dramatic burnt orange layered silk/ organza strapless Louis Vuitton Couture gown. Another touch of luxury was added to her neckline with a Forevermark and Fred Leighton necklace with 30 carats of brilliant-cut diamonds.

Rooney Mara, Best Actress nominee for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” chose a white Givenchy gown with a plunging neckline. “American Idol” Judge Jennifer Lopez played up her sensuality in a unique tight-fitting Zuhair Murad gown designed with pleats across the sleeves, bodice and long sweeping skirt. There was said to be a fashion miss function during the event.

When Angelina and Brad Pitt, her husband, entered, Angelina showed her right leg. A beautiful woman wants attention! Angelina wore a strapless black velvet Atellier Versace gown but everyone was looking at her leg.

Best Supporting Actress nominee for “Bridesmaids” Melissa McCarthy is co-star of one of my favorite new comedy series “Mike and Molly”. She is so “real” in this role. Melissa wore a crystal embellished Marina Rinaldi gown.

As I interviewed the celebrities along the Red Carpet, many of them mentioned they were happy to be at the Academy Awards for the benefit of Variety, the Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada. It was a great cause to add the meaning of giving to the event.

I was thrilled to wear a Red Carpet fashion, E! Live from the Red Carpet, a champagne gown with the layered “look”, graduated tiers, tulip hem, and bolero jacket by designer Adrianna Papell at Dillards. www.onalv.org www.varietysn.org
