With football season right around the corner, it’s time to start talkin’ some football. So here are my predictions for the AFC West in 2012.
Denver Broncos: Last season the Broncos finished 8-8 overall and finished 3-3 in the AFC West. The big news over the off-season is the arrival of Peyton Manning. If Manning can comeback from his year long neck injury expect much improvement from the Broncos in 2012. The offense will be led by Manning, running back Willis McGahee, and a receiving corp led by Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, and Andre Caldwell. The strength of the team last season was the solid play of the defense by DB Champ Bailey and rookie LB Von Miller. To season improvement in 2012, the defense will need to continue to improve and the offense will need to put up points against a tougher schedule in 2012.
My best prediction for the Broncos: 11-5
My worst prediction for the Broncos: 8-8
My most likely prediction for the Broncos: 10-6
Kansas City Chiefs: Last season the Chiefs finished 7-9 overall and finished 3-3 in the AFC West. The signing of Peyton Hillis in the off-season could create a powerful 1-2 punch if Jamaal Charles can comeback healthy in 2012. If the Chiefs can count on a strong rushing attack from Hillis and Charles then quarterback Matt Cassell and the receiving corp led by Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston should put up some solid numbers. The defense will also have to improve on last season’s performance to see any real improvement on last year’s record.
My best prediction for the Chiefs: 10-6
My worst prediction for the Chiefs: 7-9
My most likely prediction for the Chiefs: 9-7
Oakland Raiders: Last season the Raiders finished 8-8 overall and finished 3-3 in the AFC West. First year head coach Dennis Allen will be put to the test in tough AFC West in 2012. The Raiders offense will be led by Carson Palmer at quarterback and Darren McFadden at running back. If McFadden can stay healthy the offense will have a chance to compete. Coach Allen will need to improve the Raider defense to any improvement on last years record.
My best prediction for the Raiders: 9-7
My worst prediction for the Raiders: 4-12
My most likely prediction for the Raiders: 6-10
San Diego Chargers: Last season the Chargers finished 8-8 overall and finished 3-3 in the AFC West. The Chargers enter 2012 with a strong offense led by Phillip Rivers at quarterback, Ryan Matthews at running back, and a solid receiving corp with Antonio Gates and Eddie Royal. The big question for the Chargers improvement in 2012 will be the quality of their defense. The defense will improve if Takeo Spikes, Eric Weddle and company have big years.
My best prediction for the Chargers: 9-7
My worst prediction for the Chargers: 7-9
My most likely prediction for the Chargers: 8-8
2012 AFC West prediction standings:

2. Kansas City Chiefs: 9-7
3. San Diego Chargers: 8-8
4. Oakland Raiders: 6-10
