CrossFit is structured in a similar way to a group personal training session. The program itself is considered intense, however, with proper research, a member or user can obtain a CrossFit program that will provide all fitness levels with the potential to improve and develop at an individual’s own pace. The ease in understanding CrossFit comes from its minimalist approach to fitness, which emphasizes functionality in a limited number of performed exercises.
This approach allows participants to adapt to the program and start with the basic WOD or “Workout of the Day”, a foundational start to CrossFit that allows a client to obtain the strength, dexterity, and endurance needed to advance in their fitness goals and throughout the overall CrossFit conditioning sessions.
What makes CrossFit unique stems from not only its stripped down approach to fitness, but also how it challenges its participants. In general, those moving through either the WOD or other CrossFit challenges are led through a series of exercises performing a certain number of repetitions in a certain amount of time.
More advanced participants often compete against one another for the best time and the most repetitions. However, CrossFit is not focused on competition other than improving one’s character and overcoming one’s own barriers for fitness and health. Instead, the focus is on stability, which for many can be a problem in itself.
The idea of performing workouts on a regular basis is a foundational belief that CrossFit establishes for all of its participants no matter the fitness level ,an individuals health, or personal goals. Providing comprehensive body fitness, strength, stamina and health, are the obvious benefits that stem from simple yet powerful and challenging workouts.
CrossFit utilizes basic equipment that can easily be adapted by all of their participants. Items such as kettle bells, plylometrics, sand boxes, dumbbells, climbing ropes and rowers, all aid in the ease and simplicity of being able to follow a CrossFit WOD; however, such equipment also allows for the transfer to training that is more intense and progress if such goals are established. Participants will be instructed on the use of all equipment prior to engaging in any workout and proper form and technique for safety and reliability will be emphasized. The overall popularity of CrossFit training has allowed for the expansion of profitability of fitness centers that accommodate to those interested in pursuing this form of fitness training.
