COMMENTARY | As of now, It appears no arrests have been made in the brutal beating of a 32-year-old mother of five children. The Associated Press has reported that the woman was an Iraqi national, living in California. The woman’s daughter found her on the floor, critically injured.
Found on the floor next to the woman’s battered body, was a note reading “go back to your country.” This note is second to one the family found outside their home about one month prior to the attack that has killed the young mother.
This is a terrible crime, committed by a coward or cowards. The family is understandably in shock. Any person who would commit such a crime is obviously a bad egg, and will most likely be caught fairly quickly due to his apparent mental lack of judgement that allowed him to commit such a crime in the first place.
These kinds of crimes only elevate feelings of hate between two nationalities. They are senseless, and not condoned by the decent citizens of this country. In the mind of a person who commits a crime like this, he is a hero. This shows the small mental capacity they possess.
A hero does not harm innocent people, especially a woman, or a child. The perpetrator has committed a murder, while committing a felony (breaking and entering) at the same time at the home of the victim. In Many states, this is classified as a capital punishment case in which the accused can face the death penalty.
This family is suffering a great deal due to the loss of a loved member of the family. During tough times of dispute between two countries, we need to remember that we are all humans, created equally. Often, it is easy to get wrapped up in the moment, and express anger from one side to another.
Having differences of opinion is normal, and healthy. Being a patriotic citizen of your country, is healthy. To take things too far, and harm an innocent human being, is wrong, for any reason. These acts of violence should be condemned.
A person of Arab decent that is in a training camp may very well want to harm an American citizen. A person of Arab decent living, and working in our country want’s the same thing you, and I want — a quiet peaceful life here in this country.
Instead of staying silent when you hear of this kind of senseless hate brewing, do the right thing, and condemn it. Try to educate, and convince others that we are all human, and no one should ever be met with such a fate due to ignorance.
