Paranormal or supernatural activities are not on the increase. We are just more comfortable talking about them than we did a few generations ago. We also live in a time where many countries now allow talk about ghosts or the paranormal become acceptable social conversation. A few centuries ago, any talk of seeing spirits lead to a dungeon — or worse.
We are able to talk freely about issues and like witnessing paranormal activity without fear of getting killed. With the advent of the World Wide Web, we are able to garner a lot more information quicker about any subject we want, including the paranormal. With more and more of the world population going on line, more people are talking more about their paranormal experiences. This could give a false impression that paranormal activities are on the rise.
What Is The Paranormal?
Paranormal activities are actually quite normal and happen constantly. We just usually don’t see it. Scientists have determined that we don’t consciously register everything that we see – if we did, we’d never get anywhere. We’d be so distracted by every molecule on every blade of grass we wouldn’t notice the Mack truck bearing down at us. Our species has evolved to survive in the best way possible – including not being able to notice spirits and their activities.
The esteemed British scientist on artificial intelligence, Dr. Max Clowes, referred to human vision as “controlled hallucination”. In this case, what we don’t see has helped us get along through life. Due to the construction of the eye, we see everything as upside-down. However, our brains have learned to flip over all images taken in with the eyes.
A Question of Labeling
There are even instances where people can see things that they can’t see and yet still know are there. For example, people born with monocular vision cannot see things in three dimensions. They have a terrible time doing normal things like walking up and down stairs or crossing the street. And yet, over the years, even though they cannot see a third dimension, their brains learn how to “see” a third dimension through use of color, sound and instinct developed over a lifetime.
There are also many natural colors like infra-red and ultra violet that we cannot see without the aid of mechanical devices. Some insects, birds and animals are able to see these colors, however. Are they seeing something paranormal? Technically, yes, as what they see is not the normal color spectrum we humans can see. Since it’s outside the range of what we can normally see, then it’s “paranormal”.
In Conclusion
It takes great skill to see spirits. You have to want to see them in order to see them, despite all logic or reassurances from others. So there is nothing to fear from the paranormal (or hope for, depending on your point of view). The spirits are not out to get us, nor organizing to take over the world, nor are they increasing their paranormal activities. All that is happening is just that we are finally talking about those strange things that go bump in the night.
Although ghosts and spirits seem like a logical explanation, it is by no means a truthful explanation knowing what we currently do. There has never been any proof of life after death or the existence of spirits. The odds are that what we now call “spirits” will wind up being something far more impressive (or mundane) than we can currently imagine.
