This week on “The Bachelorette,” Emily Maynard met the families of the four remaining gentlemen.
Jef Wants Emily To “Hold His Gun”
Emily’s hometown date with Jef took place at Holmstead Ranch. Jef impressed Emily by shooting several clay pigeons. But as it turns out, Emily’s got pretty good aim herself! Jef remarked, “I just want her to hold a gun all day long.” That phrase has loaded connotations!
Jef’s brother was a little concerned that he wasn’t ready to be a father or to have a family. However, at the end of their date, Jef read a sappy letter that won Emily over. If anything, the deceptively sweet Emily will keep him around because he seems so genuinely guileless, and easy to manipulate.
Arie’s Parents Don’t Buy Emily’s “Charm”
Yet not everyone’s falling for Emily’s Southern belle image. Before meeting Arie’s family, Emily talked about how she was going to “work my charm.” If Emily were truly sincere, then she wouldn’t need to put on an act.
Everything about Emily is phony. When Arie gave her a ride at the racecar track, she kept giggling about how nervous she was. Please! She dated Ricky Hendrick, and she even drove a racecar during Brad’s season.
In any case, it’s not surprising that Arie’s parents saw through Emily right away. Emily has quite the history with racecar men, and these families are able to spot an opportunist.
Arie’s mom asked her why it didn’t work out with Brad. She also discouraged Emily by talking about how racecar husbands would constantly have to travel for work. Arie’s dad spoke encouraging words to his son, but his body language and facial expressions seemed underwhelming.
Sean Doesn’t Live With His Parents
Sean pulled a fast one on Emily when he confessed that he still lived with his parents. He also showed her his room which was covered with kiddies toys and cookie crumbs.
This revelation made Emily questions everything she believed about Sean. So she was relieved to learn that this was all a prank. He wasn’t really an overgrown man-child.
Chris Dances Last Polka With Emily
Judging from Emily’s body language, we knew that she wasn’t feeling it with Chris. Everything about her body language and mannerisms seemed forced. I thought Chris’ Polish family was charming, but they may have been a bit too ethnic for all-American Emily.
When Emily eliminated Chris at the rose ceremony, he broke one of the cardinal rules of dating: never ask why. There was no way that the conversation could have gone well.
She explained that the other relationships had “moved faster.” He pointed out that he told her he loved her. “How much faster can you go than that?” He did have a point, but unfortunately, he only shot himself in the foot by trying to argue himself out of a breakup.
