Are you in the process of planning a barnyard themed birthday party for your child? If so, you may want to check out a few of my barnyard themed menu ideas. Here they are:
Moo Bar
Depending on the ages of the children involved, you may want to set up a moo bar. A moo bar consists of different types of milk displayed in glass milk jars and milk flavorings set up in serving bowls. For example, you could serve whole cow’s milk, skim cow’s milk and goat’s milk. Milk flavorings could consist of malt, chocolate and strawberry powders or syrups. I’d also suggest that you consider incorporating a few crazy, barnyard animal shaped straws into your moo bar as well.
Hors d’oeuvres
When it comes to cold hors d’oeuvres, I’d suggest serving a variety of cubed cheeses, fruits, yogurt dips and deviled eggs. Pigs in a blanket, cheese crescent triangles, chicken tenders and mini Swedish meatballs would work well as hot hors d’oeuvres.
Soup and Salad
There is a good chance that you won’t need soup or salad ideas for the kids’ menu but I thought that I’d throw them into mix anyway. I’d suggest that you go with a cold soup as well as a garden salad made with Little Gem lettuce. You could also opt to go with a basic Cobb salad.
Entrées
Three-way chicken drumsticks would make a great barnyard themed entrée. I’d suggest that you consider going with a grilled drumstick, a fried drumstick and a barbecued drumstick. You may also want to consider serving beef sliders with assorted topping or lamb lollipops with flavored toppings.
Side Dishes
Of course your choice of entrée is going to affect your choice of side dishes. I’d suggest that you have at least one vegetable side dish and one starch. Based on my experience, kids tend to like to eat fried green beans with dipping sauces, sweet potato fries, miniature ears of corn, cole slaw and copper pennies.
Dessert
The barnyard theme could be incorporated into your dessert menu in several ways. You could opt to create a cake in the shape of a barn, a farm animal or a piece of farm equipment. You could also opt to serve miniature cheesecakes or farm inspired cupcakes placed inside grass shaped baking cups ($4 per 24 cups). Either one would work well.
