This year, bring the temperature down by decorating your bedroom for summer. Fill your room with a cool spring zephyr using decorative fans. Wick away moisture with cooling bedding and rugs. And enjoy the fun of decorating with unexpected items like a beverage tub, straw hats or wind chimes. All these ideas and more are waiting to inspire you.
Cooling Bedding
The bedding you use to decorate your bedroom can greatly affect how hot you feel on summer nights. Cover your existing mattress with a cooling mattress pad to keep your bed feeling cool even after hours of lying in it. Then decorate your bed with beautiful sheets and comforters designed especially for summer from cooling fabrics (like bamboo) that wick moisture away.
Antique Breeze
Decorate your bedroom with antique fans that will spread a pleasant breeze through your hot summer nights. Antique or retro fans are beautiful and come in a wide range of colors and styles, to fit any decor. Place a fan on a bar stool in one corner of the room, then another in the opposite corner. Add a remote electrical switch to activate your fans from bed without getting up.
Beverage Tub
Decorative beverage tubs are found in home and garden stores in a wide assortment of colors and shapes. Metal tubs painted in lime or bright blues are especially beautiful. Fill the tub with houseplants to decorate your bedroom with an indoor blooming garden. At the center plant a small colorful bucket, in which you can store cool bottles of drink every night.
Hats Off
Decorate the wall over your bed with an assortment of colorful straw hats. You’ll find hats in garden stores or online. Hang the hats on hooks or a long coat rack painted brightly. Decorate your hats with silk ribbons or handkerchiefs to brighten your summer bedroom decor even more.
Splashing Water Fountain
Decorate your bedroom this summer with the soothing sound of running water. Water fountains have been proven to freshen the air with negative ions. And you’ll find a wide selection of affordable water fountains online or in garden stores. Place the water fountain on a bedside table (which has access to an electrical outlet). And be sure to cover the table beneath the fountain against splatter.
Wind Chime Beauty
Decorate your window with a beautiful wind chime. You can hang it from the eaves outside, or inside the window frame, if you sleep with your window open. Be sure to select your wind chime both for beauty and the soothing quality of the sound. Drug stores, garden centers and online stores all carry a wide selection of beautiful wind chimes.
Roll Up Your Winter Rugs
Replace your heavy floor coverings with something cooler this summer. Place bamboo rugs on either side of your bed. Bamboo wicks away moisture and will keep your feet feeling cool. Outdoor rugs are also a good alternative, made from such materials as Polypropylene in place of traditional wool.
Breezy Curtain
Decorate your bedroom for hot summer nights with a second layer of window treatments. While your upper layer will block the sun in the day, hang a see-though layer of fabric directly over the window to flutter in the wind at night. Simply use a bathtub shower curtain rod inside the frame of your window and hang a see-through curtain in white or cool blues.
