Best and Safest Baby Bath Time Products

by pop tug

Having a new baby is full of many worries for a new parent. With a few simple pointers and tips, worries about baby’s bath time doesn’t have to be on the list of concerns. The first step in safe and comfortable bath time for baby starts with the right bath products. The market is crowded with various products.

Choosing the Right Bathtub

Choosing the right baby tub involves your particular needs. Some parents prefer placing a newborn’s tub in the bathroom tub, while others simply fill it with water and place on a safe and secure surface. Still others parents prefer to use a sink to wash baby while using a bath sponge for support. The most important rule is to ensure you are comfortable with the bath tub or bath sponge. Purchasing one that you, as a parent aren’t comfortable using, might lead to bath time anxieties for both of you. Ensure that the tub has an internal sling or contoured design that provides support for your baby. If you purchase a product that does not meet your needs or does not function as you wished, either return it to your one of your local baby stores where you purchased it or buy a new one that you can comfortably use.

Washcloths and Towels

Experts advise against using a sponge to clean with, as it harbors germs. Purchase a few cotton wash cloths and towels for bath time use. Most baby towels come in cotton, but ensure that the ones you buy are. Some babies have sensitive skin and cotton is the best tolerated fabric, leading to few if any skin rashes. Consider buying a wrap around towel or one with a hood. Securing your baby with the towel after bath time gives your baby a sense of security while drying off and affords a time for parent/ child bonding.

Powers and Lotions

When I had my babies, the rage was to use powder for that baby fresh scent. Since that time, Pediatricians have discovered that baby powder is bad for a new borns lungs. Small talc particles are easily inhaled, leading to lung irritations. If powder is used, use it sparingly. A better option is to forgo the baby powder and opt for a gentle baby lotion. A great ingredient to look for is aloe, which is natural and soothing. Some baby lotions and creams contain lanolin. However, some babies with sensitive skin break out with lanolin type lotions. Finding the perfect lotion for a baby’s skin may require a bit of trail and error.

Knowing how to make baby’s bath time fun and safe takes a lot of stress off of a new parent. With a few tips and the right products, bath time can be enjoyable rather than stressful for both baby and parent.
