Are you in the process of planning a ladybug themed party for your Pre-K students? Perhaps you just want to reward your kids with a tasty themed snack. Either way, you may want to consider making one of these bug inspired treats:
Bugged Out Crostinis
One of the first snacks that you may want to consider making are bugged out crostinis. They are made by toasting leaf shaped pieces of bread and topping them with cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and black olives. You can find a basic recipe for the snack posted on the Taste of Home website. The recipe on the website differs from mine in that it calls for sour cream and crackers instead of leaf toast and pesto. I like using the toast shapes and pesto because it looks like the ladybug is sitting on a green leaf. The bread also tends to stay crisp, which provides a nice crunch to the snack. You can generally purchase leaf shaped cookie cutters through specialty retailers like the Sweet Art Factory.
Chilly ladies are another snack that you may want to try. They are actually ladybug shaped treats made with frozen red raspberry yogurt. In order to make the treats, you’ll need to invest in a silicone ladybugs mold and red raspberry yogurt. The ladybugs molds are often sold through retailers like Country Kitchen Sweetart.
Once you have those items in your possession, assembly is quite simple. All you need to do is fill the ladybug mold’s cavities with the raspberry fruit puree and then freeze it for six hours. Afterward, peel the mold off of the yogurt bites. Then place them onto a lettuce covered plate for the kids to enjoy.
Saucy Bug Bites
If you want to serve your children a hot snack, I’d recommend making ladybug shaped pizzas. To make the snack, you’ll need a ladybug cookie cutter, pizza dough, pizza sauce, black olives and shredded cheese. You may opt to make your own pizza dough or purchase it readymade from a grocery store. Personally, I like making my own dough.
Begin the assembly process by using the cookie cutter to create ladybug shaped pieces of pizza dough. Next, spread some pizza sauce onto the dough and top it with the shredded cheese of your choice. Continue by adding another layer of pizza sauce. That way, the finished treat will look red. Then use the black olives to create a head and body spots for each ladybug. Afterward, bake the pizza in your oven like you normally would. When the saucy bug bites are finished baking, you may serve them.
