Overview – Beast is nearly the ultimate boss and epic boss killer in the game. His entire suite of abilities and powers allows him to nullify the most dangerous aspects of most bosses and makes it much easier to fight multiple bosses at a time. He is much less impressive in normal fights because many of his special abilities will prove useless. This makes a niche character, but a good one for any hero stable.
How to Obtain – Beast can be purchased for 90 command points.
Special Abilities – Catch-22/Bleak House – Beast’s first special ability gives him a bonus to damage on the next attack he makes after any round in which he doesn’t perform one. Since half his powers are not attacks and both give him the ability to counter, this often means his utility powers deal as much or more damage as his offensive powers. His second ability occasionally causes him and his allies to score a critical hit on the next attack any of them make after an enemy has assaulted them. Combined, these abilities make Beast’s already respectable damage very high.
The Jungle (Level 1) – This high stamina cost attack deals moderately high damage to a single target. Additionally, it ignores bodyguard abilities and does not provoke counters. When it hits, the target loses all class benefits, including buffs already gained from that class and can’t regain any of them for two rounds. This ability is particularly good at preventing bosses or allies of bosses from pounding on allied characters in boss fights that require specific heroes to fight. The one flaw of the power is that it has low accuracy.
War and Peace (Level 2) – This low stamina cost power is a utility power. When used, the target gains a debuff. While this debuff is active, whenever the target attacks, Beast will attack the target. This is especially effective against bosses that have multiple actions per round.
The Grapes of Wrath (Level 6) – Like War and Peace, this power also is not aggressive. When used, Beast and all allies gain random buffs and Beast gains the ability to counter any attacks made against him. This should be the first power used in any combat, unless it is critical to use The Jungle or A Farewell to Arms early.
A Farewell to Arms (Level 9) – A Farewell to Arms is an attack specifically designed to negate a bodyguard. The power has a moderate stamina cost and deals moderate damage, though the damage is increased against any target that is currently acting as a bodyguard. Additionally, the target that is hit loses the ability to bodyguard and counter for a round. The one flaw is that Farewell to Arms has very low accuracy, but since it hits four times, it is almost certain to tag the target at least once.
Unlocks – Beast is not currently required to unlock any game content.
PvP – Beast is a spoiler character in PvP. His ability to potentially counter multiple times a round makes him the perfect counter to multi-action PvP teams. His ability to nullify bodyguards makes him the perfect foe against Spider-Man, Captain America, and Colossus. His ability to remove class benefits allows him to team up with heroes that are usually dominated in PvP, like blasters and bruisers. Despite the fact that he is a spoiler, too many stealthy attacks make him only a second tier PvP hero rather than a top contender.
Variant Uniforms – Beast does not currently have any variant uniforms.
