Let me start off by saying that this wasn’t just a one day event. Friday, March 30th, 2012 kicked off the weekend shindig with attendee’s being the Dean’s List Folks being treated to a wonderful meal by Willie, Billy Dean’s Chef and music my Billy Dean. I hear the mashed potatoes and brown gravy were to die for. A song was sung in their honor which was a hoot. Saturday, March 31st was Billy’s Birthday Bash and Sunday, April 1st, Billy wrapped it all up with Billy Dean’s Sunday Brunch. Nobody and I say again, nobody can accuse the Dean’s of not doing it up right.
What a great time was had by everybody at Billy Dean’s 50th Birthday bash at his own home, his 100 acre Ranch in Liberty, Tennessee lovingly named Dean Acres. We arrived promptly at 4:00 p.m. and were greeted by a very friendly police officer checking passes and ID’s. This was to be expected, after all the country star had opened his home to so many for his wonderful milestone birthday. We were directed to park our car in the field where all the cars were being parked. There was a mule pulled wagon bringing people up to the big tent where underneath awaited good country barbecue, new Billy Dean Merchandise marking the occasion and tables covered by linen cloth.
The stage was large and the sound system was state of the art. The sound was being controlled both by the side and the back area of the tent. The result of such great planning was impeccable sound throughout the early evening reaching into almost the midnight hour.
Billy made the rounds and had his picture taken with many friends and fans whiling holding a pitch fork, not to mock his Dean Acres Mantra but to support it. Billy made several announcements about all the new and wonderful things happening in his life, his music career and his plans for Dean Acres. He was so filled with joy and sheer happiness. The man spews love and kindness. He really is a great person as well as being a super talented musician, songwriter and singer not to mention a good husband and loving father. He still calls his wife Stephanie his bride even though they have been married near a decade and he thanked her for his night to remember.
Billy had new friends, a 3 piece group he met while on tour with Kenny Rogers in England. They were the first to perform at his birthday celebration and they had a unique country sound. Then he invited Ty Herndon up to sing some songs with him which was so much fun to see them perform together. He invited his old friend and harmony singer Tim Hedge up to sing with him and not only was it an extremely touching moment but they sounded excellent.
It was one after another of great performances by Ty Herndon, Jamie O’Neal and Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. Billy borrowed Rhonda’s band for a bit and added a good ole Blue Grass twist to some of his own songs. Billy did an audience participation song by kicking off the theme song to the popular 60’s TV show, “Green Acres.” Everyone chimed in and really enjoyed it. The female police officer hired to work the party even kicked up here heals and danced in the middle of the audience and I’ve got the photos to prove it.
The night ended with Billy and his wonderful family all on stage together only after Billy was presented with a gift book signed by his family and friends. His daughter read her passage to her Dad and tears flowed. After Billy was able to speak again he and his lovely daughter performed a country classic. Then while surrounded by his wife and children, Billy performed, “Let Them Be Little.” This night will not be only a memory in the future since the whole night of music was recorded with the plan of releasing a “Live” CD so all the attendee’s will be able to relive this night forever through the CD and may even hear themselves on the recording cheering in the background.
One thing for sure is that you can really feel the love at, “Dean Acres,” and you would be hard pressed to find anyone that has been there to tell you any different. Dean Acres is truly the place to be.
