When trying to think of themes for a birthday party for young children, it can be difficult to come up with an original theme that will make your child happy. Sometimes it is fine to repeat themes that others have done as it is what the child wants. However, sometimes children want a theme that is completely different from themes of the other birthday parties they attended. With this in mind, you can have a Teddy Bear’s Picnic birthday party.
When making the invitations, make sure that there is a picture of a teddy bear or at least another stuffed animal on the invitation. Besides putting the normal information of date, time, and place for the party, make sure that the invitations also specify that the favorite stuffed toy (or friend) of the child is also invited to the party.
In order to be prepared for the party, you want to have all necessary items. You are going to need a large picnic blanket, a picnic basket, snacks and drinks appropriate for the ages attending, and small dishes for the ages attending and also enough to serve the imaginary food to the teddy bears. You should also have a cake pan in the shape of a teddy bear to make a teddy bear cake or order a cake in the shape of a teddy bear.
Set up the party area by spreading the picnic blanket and putting the picnic basket in the middle of it. Then set up each child’s area by setting out a plates with the food and cups filled with the drink. You also need to put an extra plate and cup, but with nothing on it or in it next to each child’s place for the teddy bear.
Designate a table or other area for gifts where guests can set the party gifts.
You can decide what order to do things in for the party, but one of the things that children’s parties usually have are games. The games usually fit the theme of the party.
Tape the Nose on the Teddy Bear: Draw a teddy bear on a large piece of cardboard. Make sure that the nose is a fairly large area, but not any bigger than a piece you can cut out of an 8 1/2″ by 11″ piece of construction paper. Cut out the same shape or shapes as the nose on the cardboard from the piece of construction paper or other colored paper. You can have a single nose or you can have a nose of different colors (or write the name or initials of the child on the nose) for each child. The nose should be a bright color or black like found on teddy bears. Make sure that you have a blindfold to put over the eyes of the children. This can be a bandanna that is tied over the eyes, a sleep mask, or a blind fold made for blocking sight. Have each child stand in front of the teddy bear, one at a time. Hand the child playing the nose. It should have a If making the game more difficult, turn the child around three times. Then let the child walk towards the area of the wall or a tree where you posted the picture of the teddy bear. The winning child is the one that gets the nose the closest to where the nose on the teddy bear is located.
Coloring Sheets: Children often love coloring. Print out coloring sheets of teddy bears and give them to the children to color. Make sure to have crayons available for coloring the pictures.
Physical Teddy Bear Rhymes: There are many teddy bear rhymes. These usually have actions to go with them and they are usually written directly into the rhymes. Have children play these games by saying the rhymes with you and doing the actions. Find teddy bear rhymes at Can Teach.
Teddy Bear Says: Play “Simon Says,” but instead of saying “Simon.” say “Teddy Bear.” Here are the instructions for playing “Simon Says.”
