“Truth is stranger than fiction.”
The WWE creative team would give anything to have a storyline like this unfold on Raw and Smackdown. A total of four current and former WWE wrestlers are reportedly dating each other in real life. Daniel Bryan and John Cena are each dating one of the Bella Twins. If the Attitude Era was still in existence and the Bella Twins still wrestled for the WWE, I could only imagine how many millions of former fans would return to pro wrestling.
Early in his WWE tenure, Daniel Bryan kayfabe dated the Bella Twins. It was a classic “opposites attract” gimmick as Bryan was playing up his real life wholesome, vegan lifestyle while the Bella Twins were anything but wholesome in the WWE. The angle ended when the Bella Twins caught Daniel Bryan with Gail Kim.
After the Bella Twins left the WWE, Daniel Bryan began dating Brie Bella in real life. In fact, Bryan and Brie recently surfaced at the Bella Twins’ high school reunion. There’s no word on how Gail Kim feels about Daniel Bryan’s new relationship, but since she recently married Food Network star Robert Irvine, I’m sure she’s taking things in stride.
Now that John Cena’s divorce is complete, the WWE’s biggest star is moving on in his personal life. On television, Cena is flexing his muscles for the WWE’s resident crazy chick, AJ Lee. But while Vickie Guerrero’s evidence of John Cena and AJ Lee’s indiscretions is purely circumstantial, there’s nothing circumstantial about these photos.
At the same high school reunion, Cena showed up with Brie’s twin sister, Nikki. This was the first public appearance of John Cena and Nikki Bella together and it may have even been their first date. I don’t know how serious Cena and Nikki are, but if the photos are any indication, I don’t think they just went out as friends.
If Raw was TV-14 and the Bella Twins still worked for the WWE, the creative team would be pinching themselves right now. Throw in a kayfabe dose of AJ Lee and the WWE would have a gold mine on its hands. Numerous wrestlers have returned to the WWE after leaving so I wouldn’t put it past Vince McMahon to bring back the Bella Twins for his male soap opera.
