Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KOs) put on a spectacular performance during his last outing against Mike Alvarado (33-1-0, 23 KOs), knocking out “Mile High” during the seventh round of their Oct. 13 encounter.
With the victory, Rios earned the top spot on Manny Pacquiao’s list of potential opponents for his scheduled April 20 outing, but the 26 year-old also has his eyes on other opponents, mainly Danny Garcia (25-0-0, 16 KOs).
Rios is clearly not a “Swift” fan — which probably has something to do with Angel Garcia’s (Danny’s father) comments that he’ll have to go through additional drug testing if he wants to fight his son — and “Bam Bam” took a few shots at the Puerto Rican during an interview with Chris Robinson.
“I’ll knock him out,” Rios said. “I know I can knock him out. Because, he’s saying that he’s a better boxer than me, what I’ve seen is that he just comes to fight. He’s like me. He hasn’t really been tested. He fought Erik Morales. Yeah, Erik Morales was a hell of a fighter, but he fought an old Erik Morales. He fought Amir Khan; no disrespect to Amir Khan, but he’s been knocked out. He don’t have a chin. He hasn’t really fought nobody that can take a punch and give a punch and I think I can do that.”
Brandon will have to wait a while for an opportunity to fight Garcia, as “Swift” is already set to face former IBF light-welterweight champion Zab Judah on Feb. 9. Zab and Angel almost came to blows during the official press conference announcing the Judah-Garcia fight, and there will probably be a lot more drama leading up to their bout.
Regardless of what happens during the title clash between Garcia and Judah, Rios — who is trained by Danny’s uncle, Robert Garcia — seems highly interested in a fight against Swift, and he’s confident he’ll emerge victorious if their paths ever collide.
“I come to fight. I don’t come to [expletive] around. If I talk [expletive] and I back it up, it’s because I’m ready,” Rios added. “I talk [expletive] and I back it up. I’m ready. I come to fight. I don’t come to hug, hold. Honestly I think; not I think, I know I can knock him out. I want what he has. That’s the WBC and the WBA [light-welterweight titles]. I want that [expletive].”
