Cinco de Mayo is a jovial day dedicated to celebrating Mexican independence. The best way to do that is with a well-made margarita and a mariachi band. Thanks to local knowledge, the three best places to spend May 5th have been uncovered. Bring your own sombrero.
Habaneros Mexican Grill
I’ve gone to this place for every Cinco de Mayo celebration since I was 4 years old. Biggest party in town. Always a big band playing in the grass in front of the restaurant and tequila is handed out all day long…for a discounted price, may I add. It’s also kid friendly, if you have them, but if not, they won’t bother you at the bar. They also sell Habaneros Cinco de Mayo tee shirt specifically for the occasion…and continue to sell them throughout the year. Habaneros Mexican Grill is located at 11151 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
This new establishment settled in Market Common went all out for Cinco de Mayo last year. They sponsored a free concert given by recording artist Edwin McCain, free parking, and food was provided by the area’s best, the Divine Dining Group. I wasn’t able to make it out to the event, but I heard it was a blast. They’ll most definitely be doing something fun again this year! And make sure you grab one of their burgers while you’re there…absolutely delicious! Nacho Hippo is located at 1160 Farrow Parkway, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina .

Fiesta del Burro Loco
The “BurroFest” has been long running and known as one of the best Cinco de Mayo celebrations of the area. Last year, the restaurant organized an event where they tried to break the Guinness World Record of “Most People Applying Sunscreen At Once.” This place is also huge. It is even big enough to accommodate the massive indoor dance party that starts at 11pm, or after the last band finishes their set. This event usually starts at about 11am and lasts all the way until the early hours of the morning when everyone is tired from dancing their butts off. Obviously a must. Burro Loco is located at 960 Frontage Road W., Myrtle Beach, South Carolina .
After reading this article, I hope you feel inclined to celebrate at all three events this year. They are most definitely worth your time and money. You’re bound to have a great time at any of these places. Just don’t forget your piñata at the bar!
