Charlotte hosts the 2012 Democratic National Convention. In a nod to city pride, Yahoo! asked city residents to boast about the best places, people, features and things to do in Charlotte. Here are highlights from one resident.
The city of Charlotte is a calm, beautiful place that represents what Southern hospitality is all about.
Great place to live
What makes Charlotte a great place to live? Start with the beautiful skylines, the nice weather, and a moderate cost of living. Charlotte has a diverse population, nice attractions, and we have the NFL’s rookie of the year… Cam Newton, and the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball… Michael Jordon. Look for a new awakening from sports fanatics as the Panthers and Bobcats take their respective places in sports history.
Charlotte has state of the art attractions and facilities like the newly built Time Warner Cable Arena, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Bill Graham Library, and the Mint Museum of Art. The Billy Graham library is a must-see. It’s located minutes from the airport and admission is free. Visitors can expect to learn about Mr. Grahams’ life, but the central focus is spreading Mr. Grahams’ message about Christ.
Hosting the Democratic National Convention shows Charlotte’s appeal to the national audience. The convention has historical significance for the city, and will bring an economic boost that helps local business owners. The DNC will give the city the opportunity to bring in other major events as well as attract new corporations to help expedite job growth. I think the most important aspect of the convention is its accessibility.
Second largest banking center
Anyone wanting a career in finance should consider Charlotte. Our financial district is competitive and it attracts great people and great companies like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Fidelity. Investments in infrastructure (light rail, roads, and bridges) is putting the city in a position to accommodate future growth, which is great for small businesses. I am predicting our real estate market will bounce back nicely, so now is a great time to buy a home in Charlotte to ensure future appreciation.
Raise your children
When choosing a city to call home, parents want a place that ensures their children will thrive. The city of Charlotte is the perfect environment for kids to grow, work, and play. Whether you are looking for good schools, an internship for young professionals, or you want to take the family on an educational journey to Discovery Place, Charlotte is the place to be. Looking for ideas for a family vacation? You’re in luck. Charlotte is within six hours Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, and Washington, DC.
Rich in history, religious expression, and built on family values, there is no place like home…my home is the beautiful city of Charlotte, N.C.
