Do you enjoy making homemade bath and beauty products for your family, friends and co-workers? If so, you may want to contemplate making multiple bottles of lavender cologne this holiday season. Based on my experience, lavender cologne makes an excellent gift for women. Here’s what you need to know in order to whip up a batch:
Cologne Making Supplies
In order to create bottles of lavender cologne, you will need 1 cup of full proof vodka, 1 cup of rosewater, 4 teaspoons of glycerin, three drops of tincture of benzoin and ¼ cup of fresh lavender flowers. You’ll also need ¼ cup of fresh rosemary, ¼ cup of crushed myrtle and a ½ gallon glass jar. I would suggest using an empty pickled egg jar from the grocery store. If your grocery store doesn’t carry ½ gallon glass jars of food, you may want to consider buying one from a glass manufacturing company. In addition, you’ll also want to invest in a few decorative bottles to put your finished cologne in. Oftentimes, you can purchase empty cologne bottles through glass manufacturing companies as well.
Preparing the Cologne’s Base
I have found that making homemade lavender cologne is a rather straightforward, albeit lengthy, process. Start by pouring 1 cup of vodka, ¼ cup of rosemary, ¼ cup of crushed myrtle and ¼ cup of lavender into a ½ gallon glass jar. Then seal the jar and place it in an area of your home where it is not likely to be jostled around or exposed to strong sunlight. Allow the jar to remain undisturbed in that area for an entire month.
Finishing the Cologne
Once the month long waiting period has elapsed, you’ll need to whip up a batch of rosewater. Rosewater is made by placing two cups of freshly mashed rose petals into 2 cups of distilled water and letting it come to a fast boil. After the mixture has reached its boiling point, reduce the heat and let it simmer for two to three hours. At the end of the simmering period, strain the rosewater into a clean container and set it to the side.
Next, open up the ½ gallon jar and strain its contents into a clean jar or a large mixing bowl. Proceed by adding 1 cup of rosewater, three drops of benzoin tincture and 4 teaspoons of glycerin to the large mixing bowl. Then stir the ingredients until they appear to be well blended. Afterward, pour the finished lavender cologne into decorative bottles with the aid of a funnel. Once that is done, you’ll be able to package the lavender cologne and give it to your family and friends.
