A living room can use a new look now and then, and not just in celebration of holidays or seasonal changes. Any space can become tired looking in a matter of months, especially when spending a lot of time at home. Decorate with fabric to give it a whole new look. Scraps as well as yards of material can be used in creative ways to decorate the space. I keep fabric on hand, and I use it for crafts and temporary living room updates. By moving the furniture and applying textiles in creative new ways, it can look entirely different in a matter of minutes.
Create Fitted Slipcovers with Yards of Fabric
It is not necessary to buy fitted slipcovers when striving to decorate a living room in creative new ways. Even the costliest fitted coverings do not stay in place. The fabric stretches, and even if it does not come off, it must be tucked back in and straightened again and again. Consider buying yards of fleece fabric to decorate upholstered living room furnishings. It will not unravel, it is incredibly soft, and it can be tucked under cushions and around the arms of sofas, loveseats and chairs. If the existing furniture is old and worn, consider attaching peel and stick Velcro brand strips. It will hold the fabric in place beneath the cushions. If necessary, it can be hand stitched into place.
Wrap Picture Frames with Eye Catching Material
Plain wooden picture frames are boring, but they are easy to decorate with scraps of fabric. For a permanent change, glue random scraps of fabric over the wood. Overlap the material, and firmly wrap it around the frame. Alternately, the fabric can be neatly wrapped around a photo mat and taped in place. The colors and patterns will draw more attention to favorite photos.
Create Instant Living Room Valances with Yards of Fabric
Do not overlook the windows when seeking innovative ways to decorate a living room with fabric. Create instant living room valances with yards of fabric. Consider sheer material that will gently curve and flow around the windows. It can be hung over valance hooks or similar hardware. The article entitled Easy Ways to Stop Fabric from Fraying provides no-sew options for sealing the edges.
These are just some of the numerous ways to decorate a living room with fabric. Save scraps of material from crafts and sewing projects. Use my ideas to decorate your living room with fabrics, and come up with more of your own. If new material is too steep for your decorating budget, repurpose fabric from clothes that are no longer good enough to wear. Anything is possible with a little imagination and the desire to decorate your home in amazing new ways.
