Many people neglect the bathroom in their home decor. While it’s true it is a mainly functional space, it can also be the best space to showcase style and creativity. Since it is usually the smallest room in the house, any flourishes of inspiration can have a dramatic impact. There are several ways to creatively decorate a bathroom.
Go with a theme
Retail and home decor stores are full of themed bathroom accessories for every taste. Fish, beaches, botanical, fashion, and even cartoon characters are common choices for bathroom themes. Some, more creative, choices to consider include a movie themed bathroom (either a favorite movie, or Hollywood in general), an era (such as 50’s or 80’s), or a travel theme. Using a favorite book or author or movie star as an inspiration could result in some unique and creative bathroom decor as well.
Use artwork
Artwork makes a creative statement in any room. It adds interest and personality to the space. Consider some unusual choices for your bathroom, such as wrought iron pieces or sconces. A wall fountain can add a relaxing, Zen mood. Silk vines can be nailed or tacked to the walls in a natural, trailing pattern for a nature-like effect. For a dramatic look, hang large, framed posters in bold colors.
Change the mirror
The bathroom mirror often takes center stage in the room, so why not give it some flair? If your mirror is a typical, flat piece of glass glued to the wall, it is decidedly un-creative. If it can be removed, choose an embellished, framed mirror to replace it. A beautiful mirror is a piece of art in itself. If it can’t be removed, glue wood mouldings right on the glass to form a frame around the mirror. Home improvement stores have an array of mouldings, from modern to elegant, to suit any room style. Be sure to paint the mouldings with a high gloss paint, in a color to match your new decor. Decoupaging the frame adds a lovely touch too.
Get creative with paint
Painting your bathroom an interesting color is an easy way to express your creativity. But go a step further and use a faux technique on one or all of the walls. Make one wall striped, or paint one wall a different color than the the rest – something bold and unexpected. Don’t use several different techniques in the same room, as that would be too overwhelming, but do choose one, bold statement to make with paint.
The shower curtain
The shower curtain chosen for the bathroom is another area in which creativity can flow. Don’t confuse the shower liner with
