Dallas Cowboys preseason week two is over and the fans at Buffalo Wild Wings off Pleasant Run in Cedar Hill feel a lot better about this lost to San Diego than they did about the win against the Raiders last week. Here were the hot topics for the week
Offensive Line – One of the biggest worries before the game was how the Cowboys offensive line was going to hold up. It made us all feel good during the game to be able to see Tony Romo actually stand in the pocket and try to find a receiver. Outside of the one mistake by Doug Free the starting offensive line looked pretty good last night.
Running Backs – Success at the offensive line always makes the running backs look good and it was good to see DeMarco Murray pick up some yards this game. His 12 yards on 3 carries was not the topic of discussion for the fans at Buffalo Wild Wings though. Instead they were excited about the job that the rookie back from North Texas, Jamize Olawale, did. He did better in the open field on his receptions than veteran Felix Jones did and his 2 yd touchdown run made the fans here think that he could definitely be the short yardage back that the Cowboys have been looking for if not the number two running back. I guess we will see what these next two preseason games serve up but from what I hear from the practices, Jones has not had a good camp so the rookie just may have a chance.
Defensive Backs – The most refreshing thing for Cowboys fans, outside of the acrobatic catch by Dez Bryant in the back of the end zone, was the two interceptions by Brandon Carr. Some of the haters (Also known as Giants and Steelers Fans) wanted to bring up the fact that he was beat on his first interception and that the ball was under thrown but for Cowboys fans, we are just glad that he actually came up with the big plays. So many times last year the ball would hit our defensive backs in the hands and they were unable to make that play. In general, the Cowboys defensive backs played much better than anything we saw last year and that was room for excitement.
Wide Receiver – Of course Dez Bryant continues to make those “wow” plays every practice and every preseason game. His play on the field makes it a little easier to overlook some of his mistakes off the field. The big talk of this bar was about the battle for the third spot. Kevin Ogletree had a good game with 4 receptions for 60 yards but Cole Beasley’s 7 receptions for 104 yards makes him the fan favorite for the number three spot right now. These two guys consistently making plays shut up all the talk about the cowboys needing to pick up Plaxico Burress or Chad Johnson.
Overall the Cowboys looked much better in game two but still need to work on staying mentally in the game. They still have too many veterans getting penalties and making bad decisions throughout the course of the game. These penalties and mental mistakes still leave unanswered questions about the Cowboys being ready for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants in Week 1.
