Imagine a living room that looks like something out of a black and white film but complete with present day furnishings and decor. It is possible to decorate a space that looks like a blast from the past, but with all of the latest items. White is the lack of all color, black is the addition of every hue, and gray is a combination of both. Consider decorating a black, gray and white living room, and make it a comfortable and stylish space with amazing appeal. It can look outstanding, especially after adding a single item of color that will become the focal point of the living room.
I am waiting for the opportunity to decorate a client’s living room from top to bottom in black, white and various shades of gray. I have a creative vision, and the results can be nothing short of breathtaking. I can imagine stepping into a living room decorated in this color combination, and the signature of the space would be a gorgeous work of art.
Opt for Light Gray or White Walls
When decorating a black, gray and white living room, opt for light gray or pure white walls. If the living room is small, choose white for the walls and ceiling. If it is spacious, consider a gorgeous shade of gray. Raise the ceiling with white paint when the walls are gray. Opt for flat paint to avoid unwanted reflections of natural and artificial light.
Select Black or Medium Gray Flooring
Consider gray and black frieze carpeting when decorating a living room. Frieze has been around for years, but it is still the shag of the twenty first century. However, it does not become matted like the long pile carpeting of decades past. Unless the space will become a showplace instead of a usable part of the home, white is highly impractical. It can be incorporated into the design of the living room in much more sensible ways.
Choose Black, Gray or White Furnishings and Accessories
If the walls are white and flooring is primarily gray, consider furnishing the living room with black upholstered seating options. Consider modern velvet or easy care microfiber. Add black, white and gray throw pillows of your choice. Consider multihued options as well as solid fabrics. They will add style and luxury.
Make a Single Colored Item the Focal Point of the Living Room
The signatures of my home designs are usually works of art, and they are generally the last pieces that I place. When decorating a living room in black, white and gray, select a work of art in a solid vibrant color. As previously mentioned, it will become the focal point of the living room, and it will look unique, exceptionally stylish and highly impressive in the midst of a monochrome space.
