I was invited to visit “America’s Got Talent” Murray SawChuck backstage at his new show in the Laugh Factory, inside the Tropicana Hotel.
After a tour of the Green Dressing Room Lounge Suite and the special Make Up Room, we sat and relaxed on the narrow stage. No, I was not going to sing or dance, we discussed his exciting show.
Since Murray’s magic and illusions required a larger stage, he designed one that could be easily taken apart and put together quickly. The crew arrived and I watched how they extended a runway from the stage 8′ into the audience but that was not all! At the end of the runway was a circular floor.
Imagine not only has Murray been successful designing his own illusions and magic props he even seems to be able to add a portable stage to a showroom too! The stage is set down before Murray’s show and removed immediately afterwards each night. This is not just a regular stage. What a stage, the audience is allowed to sit all around Murray as though they are in the show. This is Magic and Illusions in the Round!
Murray explained, “By the time my crew extends the 8′ stage, we add our circle stage in the middle which brings the total stage to 16′ into the audience which means the audience is all around me. Like a theater in the round this basically allows me to do magic 360 degrees in the round for the first time in Las Vegas at a magic show! You can’t get any closer with magic unless I sit on their laps. It’s as close as if they were sitting at my dinner table eating with me.”
Murray is taking a chance allowing the audience to be so close but no one can discover his secrets. After over 20 years of being a celebrity illusionist, Murray’s performance is flawless.
All of the props, equipment and illusions must be perfect before Murray performs. He examines each of them and even checks the bolts as he prepares everything for his show.
Murray is a perfectionist, an exceptionally talented man who has been recognized on “America’s Got Talent”, “Comedy Central”, as consultant on the History channel’s “Pawn Stars” and many other television programs.
I liked to see the way Murray looked when he was not performing.
Murray laughed, “This is the real me. I am wearing ripped jeans and a regular plaid shirt but my hair is still combed so that is important.”
