A strange hotel room. An agent mortally wounded and a missing hard drive. Intrigued? You should be. This is the opening scene of the new James Bond movie, Skyfall. Skyfall is the 23rd film in the 007 series, and I have to admit one of the best I’ve seen.
Daniel Craig delivers a fantastic performance as the MI6 secret agent with a license to kill. He presents audiences with a different type of James Bond than the one so many of us had gotten used to. He is blonde instead of brunette, and he isn’t quite as tall as the other actors that have played the role. Despite these differences, he is just as dangerous and a bit more exciting to watch. He adds a coldness and an edge to the character that has been missing for a while. Craig gives new life to a character that many movie-goers had written off.
Skyfall takes Bond fans back to the beginning and exposes a raw, personal view of 007. We learn who his parents were and where he came from. Bond is no longer just another womanizing, hired-hand. As in Casino Royale, James Bond becomes painfully human.
What is a James Bond movie without an evil villain? Silva, James Bond’s nemesis, is unforgettable. You are presented with a villain who has had the same training as Bond and comes from a similar dark place. Javier Bardem makes Silva both diabolical and humorous. Although you hated him for his actions, you couldn’t help but be fascinated by his genius.
Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris join the list of “Bond Girls” in Skyfall. “Bond Girls” are always beautiful and always intriguing. In this new Bond film, they are not quite as fascinating as some of the other earlier “Bond Girls”.
I liked Naomie’s role as Eve Moneypenny. I loved that in this Bond movie Moneypenny gets to do more than just sit behind a desk at MI6. And, instead of just fantasizing about being with James Bond like she has done in so many other Bond movies, she actually gets to spend some time with her favorite spy.
Se’ve’rine just doesn’t quite live up to my idea of a “Bond Girl”. She has almost no part in the movie, and the only time she is with Bond is in one shower scene.
I’ve been a James Bond fan every since I was child, and I have seen Bond played by several different actors. Daniel Craig is by far one of my favorites. He is helping to bring “the sexy back” to the James Bond franchise.
Skyfall is a must-see for any die-hard James Bond fan like me. It gives the viewer more insight into the history of the infamous 007.
