Cincinnati is a great place with a lot of great attractions that the whole family will enjoy. Whether you live nearby and want a day trip or a weekend getaway, or you are going for a whole week, you will find plenty of great attractions in and around Cincinnati to keep you busy and happy for the entire trip.
This amusement park is full of fun and thrills. There is a great section with plenty of rides for the smaller kids, lots of large and unique roller coasters, including the world’s longest wooden roller coaster, as well as the only looping wooden roller coaster, as well as new, state of the art steel coasters. There are many great thrill rides as well as family rides, plus an abundance of shops, games, and places to eat. Included in the price of admission is the full sized water park. Plan to spend an entire day if not two at Kings Island.
This large zoo and botanical garden is one of the best in the Midwest. Plan to spend a whole day here taking in the exhibits and enjoying the plant life as you go. You will also find shows in the zoo as well as plenty to eat and lots of places to find souvenirs.
This large aquarium located in Newport, KY, just across the river from Cincinnati boasts all kinds of marine life and your entire family will have a blast here. Here you will see sharks, sting rays, octopus, and so much more. Enjoy the jellyfish room where you can stand behind the aquarium for a photo op that looks as though you are in the tank. Walk in the tunnel under the water, as you watch sharks and other sea life swim above you. There is a café available in the building and a gift shop as well.
Newport on the Levee
After you visit the aquarium be sure to check out Newport on the Levee, where the Newport Aquarium is located. Here you will find the best views of the Ohio River and the Cincinnati skyline. There are an abundance of great restaurants here, and you can do some shopping in the mall as well as watch a movie in the theater. Check out street performers and vendors outside. Adults can check out nightclubs and bars. You can also walk on the “purple people bridge” across the Ohio River to Cincy and back.
Cincinnati Museum Center
This museum is located in historic union terminal; an awe inspiring building that is worth going in just to experience the architecture. Inside you will find several museums: A museum of science, a museum of Cincinnati history, and a children’s museum. Inside the museum of science you can explore a replica limestone cave, as well as a replica ice cave. You can also check out a show at the OMNIMAX theater or the planetarium.
This unique place boasts the world’s largest indoor train display. Walk through the display and take in the miniature towns, farms, countryside, and cities that span from the beginning of the train era until today. There is a separate room for a winter train display. EnterTRAINment junction also holds a huge indoor playground for the kids, as well as small train rides outside and hand pedal trains when the weather is nice. The building also holds a classic funhouse for a small separate fee, with a mirror maze, “clown college” and other funhouse attractions. There are two stores inside for the train lover, as well as a restaurant.
Plan to spend a lot of time here if you want to see everything. There are a lot of great places downtown! Check out fountain square, beautiful in itself but also the host to many events in the warm months. Get a bird’s eye view of the city from the Carew tower observation deck. Visit Sawyer Point with water fun, playgrounds, outdoor concerts and greenways. Enjoy a Cincinnati Reds game at the Great American Ballpark. Enjoy world class food, shopping, and hotels all over downtown.
