When most people think of flour tortillas they think of tacos, fajitas and other Mexican fare. I think of desserts from cheesecake to apple pie. Some of my favorites are incredibly easy, and they are all made with ordinary flour tortillas and a few other simple ingredients. They are great for parties, family gatherings and more. I like to serve something sweet and tasty now and then, and these fast and easy desserts are ideal for any occasion.
Deep Fried Cheesecake Roll Ups Made with Flour Tortillas
Do you love cheesecake? Make it the fast and easy way with flour tortillas and a deep fryer. Simply combine eight ounces of cream cheese with one teaspoon of vanilla extract, one quarter of a teaspoon of lemon juice and enough powdered sugar to create a sweet thick mixture. Heat fresh oil a deep fryer, and spread the cream cheese filling on the flour tortillas. Roll them up tightly and seal the ends and edges with a thick mixture of egg whites and sugar. Deep fry the desserts until they are golden brown. Allow the roll ups to drain and cool on paper towels. After they are cool, sprinkle the filled desserts with a generous amount of powdered sugar. Keep the cream cheese flour tortillas refrigerated until ready to serve.
Use Flour Tortillas to Make Crispy Cinnamon and Sugar Chips
Many people do not realize how easy it is to make tortilla chips, and they can be topped in a number of tasty ways. Some of the very best tortilla chips are coated with cinnamon and sugar, and I regularly make them in my deep fryer. They are a sweet alternative to ordinary chips, and they are great for dipping in caramel or thick fudge topping.
Begin by heating fresh oil in a deep fryer. Cut tortillas into triangles, and deep fry them until they are golden brown. Allow the chips to drain on paper towels for a few minutes. Before they completely cool, sprinkle the crunchy desserts with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Toss them gently to evenly coat the pieces. I prefer using raw sugar and freshly ground cinnamon.
Deep Fried Apple Roll Ups Made with Flour Tortillas
My family loves warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream on the side. I do not serve desserts made from refined sugar on a regular basis, but now and then I make deep fried apple roll ups with flour tortillas. They are a fast and easy alternative to mini pies made with the usual dough.
To make deep fried apple roll ups, fill halves of flour tortillas with a few tablespoons of apple pie filling. Fold the halves over, and seal the edges with a thick mixture of sugar and egg white. Pinch the edges firmly. Gently deep fry the individual apple desserts until they are golden brown. Drain them on paper towels, and top them with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Serve them while slightly warm along with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that has also been sprinkled with a cinnamon and sugar mixture. They are fast, cheap, incredibly easy, and they taste absolutely delicious.
