Father’s Day showers fathers across the nation with a downpour of appreciation and honor. Somewhat like a birthday for adult male role models in a child’s life. Are you prepared to honor dear old dad this June 17th? If not, here is a list of ways to celebrate Father’s Day 2012 other than taking dad out to that predictable dinner or holding that traditional cookout.
One-on-one sports related Father’s Day activities. Fishing is favored by many. Why not go fishing on Father’s Day? Rent a boat or a canoe. Take that deep sea fishing trip that you both never got around doing. But that’s not the only sports related activity to enjoy with a father. Go golfing, shoot a game of pool, head to the swimming pool, play horseshoes, boccie, racquetball or tennis with a father who loves competition. Dad may even enjoy a nice toss of a baseball, basketball, football, or a kick of the soccer ball. The gift for your athletic (and sometimes non-mobile) dad should be a nice cold beer. Or another favored beverage.
Father’s Day celebration by campfire. A Father’s Day party at the local clubhouse is not such a bad idea, but there’s one better. Why not a family party at a campsite? Take a tree loving dad on an outdoor adventure to the local campground. That means he is king of the jungle all day on Father’s Day. Being the edge of summer, Father’s Day is a great time to create a campfire – surrounded by bug repellent. Try adding a slightly browned marshmallow on top of a graham cracker is delicious. Most people also add chocolate squares between the cracker and hot marshmallow. Be creative if your father is forbidden to eat this treat. There’s something out there that can be heated over an open flame that your father can digest well. Spend the evening or even the night at the campsite. Just remember, it’s all about dad. The gift should be useful for outdoor camping like a new high tech set of binoculars.
Take a walk inside of a museum. Taking dad to the same old local museum probably will bore him. But a stroll through an aquarium and watch his amazement. Most guys love aquariums yet don’t admit it right off the bat. Although the swordfish, eels, sharks, and other ocean fish may have to be placed on hold until regular business hours if the aquarium is not open on Father’s Day Sunday. Or simply visit the aquarium on Saturday. Gift? The gift of time – antique watch or clock.
Vacation! From all points of a compass, a vacation can be taken most anywhere. Pick your father’s favorite location and take him on a vacation. You could also pay to have both parents go on a vacation together – alone. Make sure their schedules allow such trip before securing travel reservations. This surprise is a gift within itself.
Show stoppers, concerts, special local events should be explored considerably. Our local area offers a Father’s Day Hike and Father’s Day dining. Check your local listings for any Father’s Day activities that best fits your father’s taste. Make a day of it! Gift to give with this Father’s Day activity? Camera, fully loaded and ready to shoot.
With these five Father’s Day suggestions, your search for Father’s Day activities just got easier. Because remember, it’s not the gift – it’s the thoughts inside of the gift.
Happy Father’s Day!
