With the end of summer rapidly approaching, downtown Spartanburg will usher in the beginning of fall with the annual Jazz on the Square (JOTS) event. I love this event because the evenings begin to get cooler and it’s easy to relax, have a glass of wine and listen to some of the best Jazz music anywhere! Jazz on the Square takes place at Spartanburg’s historic Morgan Square at 111 West Main Street, Spartanburg SC 29306. Read further to other essential details and a direct link to the schedule of Jazz performers for this 2012 season starting Friday Sept. 7.
When does JOTS take place and other details?
Morgan Square is alive with Jazz music every Friday evening in September and October, from 5:30pm -8:00pm, provided rain doesn’t cancel the event. JOTS admission is FREE! Every Friday evening will feature a different Jazz band. Attendees are encouraged to bring their blankets and/or chairs to sit in. It is always wise to bring an umbrella with you as well, as it is not uncommon for an evening shower to pop up at any time during September and October.
Rules for Jazz on the Square
Morgan square and downtown Spartanburg are smoke free places, so bear that in mind and obey the rules when you visit. The area is patrolled by security police to ensure the law is followed. Pets are discouraged.

Children are welcomed at JOTS!
Parking is free in any parking garage surrounding the event, and there are many spaces to park on the street surround Morgan Square. There is also ample parking for bicycles!
Entertainment Schedule for JOTS
Every Jazz group I’ve heard at Jazz on the Square has always provided quality music. You need not go anywhere else to hear great jazz tunes by accomplished musicians!
Visit this link for the full JOTS schedule and make plans to spend your Friday evenings in September and October relaxing and listening to great live jazz tunes. Make it a party by inviting family and friends to come along! After the concert, consider having dinner at any one of the fine eateries on Main Street within walking distance of JOTS!
I can’t think of a better way to experience a final outside fling before the weather turns cold! I hope to see my fellow Spartanburg and surrounding area citizens there having fun like I plan to do!
