So, you love gardening, as does your brother/sister/best friend. Now that they are engaged, you’ve pondered long and hard about the perfect wedding gift. Then it hits you like a ton of zucchini. Give them a basket filled with gardening goodies! Here’s a list of the 5 perfect items to put into a gardening gift basket for newlywed gardeners.
Seeds
Choose packets of both flower and vegetable seeds, including some of your favorites as well as theirs. For an even more personalized gift, save seeds from your own flower and vegetable gardens for them to plant together. Place in decorated envelopes, label, and attach a tag to one of the envelopes that says, “To my favorite gardeners: May your love bloom and grow.”
Trowel
You know you couldn’t live without your favorite trowel, even if the handle was charred while burning leaves and the tip is bent. This is a great time to give the newlywed gardeners a new trowel. Tie on a tag that says, “May you continue to ‘dig’ each other forever.”
Pruning shears
Every gardener knows that it’s sometimes sad to prune … but that in the end, pruning is what encourages growth. This isn’t the time to scrimp, since sturdy pruning shears are a must for gardeners. Include a tag that says, “For a happy marriage, prune out selfish habits.”
Fertilizer
Do you have a favorite fertilizer for flowers? Include a small container of it for the newlywed gardeners. If you don’t have a favorite, consider Ferti-lome Blooming & Rooting Soluble Plant Food. Add a label that reads, “For a wonderful life together, fertilize daily with words of kindness and acts of love.”
Gardening magazine
No matter how much you or the newlyweds love gardening, you all know that the season ends every year when winter blows its frosty breath across the land. Keep the newlywed gardeners’ hearts warm with a subscription to a gardening magazine such as “Greenprints, The Weeders Digest.” Include a short note that says, “Remember, the couple that reads together, weeds together.”
Try out these ideas for fun. You’ll find that assembling the items not only brings joy to your gardening heart, but you’ll be tickled when at the end you have the perfect gardening gift basket for newlywed gardeners.
