Overview – Thor is a very powerful character in the game due to the fact that he attacks like a blaster, but has the survivability of a bruiser. Against just about any type of enemy, he is absolutely brutal, but when fighting scrappers, he can produce damage numbers that can easily one-shot some of the toughest bosses in the game. Like many high damage characters, he requires some build up to be truly brutal, which means he is best when fighting multi-wave boss battles with bosses that don’t appear until later waves.
How to Obtain – Thor can be purchased for 90 command points.
Special Abilities – Asgardian – This special ability makes Thor immune to chilled, burning, poison, and radiation. It is a solid list of defenses that helps make Thor difficult to defeat.
Hammer Throw (Level 1) – Hammer Throw deals moderately high damage for a moderate stamina cost. It also hits twice which helps negate Thor’s low accuracy.
Empowering Strike (Level 2) – Empowering Strike deals moderately low damage to a single target for a moderately low stamina cost and gives Thor the Might of Mjolnir buff. Thor can gain this buff up to two times. When this buff is active on Thor, the next time he uses Hammer Throw or Summon Thunder, the damage and accuracy of the attack is improved.
Inspire Bravery (Level 6) – This power should be the first thing Thor does in every fight. When activated, Thor and all allies gain the strengthened buff. In addition, when activated, Thor gains the Might of Mjolnir buff.
Summon Thunder (Level 9) – At first glance, this power seems to deal moderately low damage to all enemies for a very high stamina cost. But, since this power deals higher damage and is more accurate when Thor is buffed by Might of Mjolnir, it is actually a quite damaging attack. With two buffs of Might of Mjolnir, the accuracy is near perfect, it has a good chance to score a critical hit and the damage is very high.
Unlocks – Thor is required to unlock the premium mission in chapter 8, which is required to obtain the Golden Batstone 2.537 Minigun.
PvP – Thor was once very popular in PvP, but his PvP value has decreased recently. Massive damage isn’t as effective when opponents like Spider-Man or Captain America can protect allies from it and when opponents like Invisible Woman and Emma Frost can practically negate the damage. Still, Inspire Bravery is a good tool for making all teammates deal high damage and the Asgardian special ability makes Thor one of the least susceptible bruisers to the popular Human Torch.
Variant Uniforms – Thor has four variant uniforms, two versions of each of two specific variants. Both variants are available in both a bruiser and a blaster version. The Avengers Thor variant is no longer available for purchase, but provides the Avengers Assemble special ability to those that have previously purchased him. The Modern Armor Thor starts with two buffs of Might of Mjolnir active on Thor. This variant is very good for alpha strikes and when using this variant, the best starting action is either Hammer Throw or Summon Thunder, rather than Inspire Bravery.
