I, along with many other Americans, was diagnosed with high cholesterol. This caused many problems in my lifestyle, and to be quite honest, I never thought I would solve the problem. Luckily, I did some research, talked to doctors, and eventually found some methods to lower my cholesterol. Now, I’m sure you think that diets, exercise, etc. will solve your problem. Yes, that is how you will go about doing the job. However, I understand that many people have trouble doing it themselves, which is why I am writing this. I will guide you to achieving your goal of lower cholesterol levels. The easy steps and methods that I will provide will ensure your success.
1. Being Aware
The first thing that you need to do to reach your goal is to know your cholesterol level almost at all times. This means having it checked regularly is vital. It will allow you to know how you are progressing towards your goal.
Like many people, I had to make some tweaks to my diet to ensure that my cholesterol levels would decrease. This doesn’t mean that you have to let go completely of the delicious foods that you love. It simply means you must add or change some of the things you eat. Below I will list some of the foods you may consider adding to your diet:
- Fish- Salmon, Mackerel, Trout, etc. (great source of omega-3)
- Oatmeal, bananas, and other fruit. (great source of fiber)
- Almonds, Walnuts, and other nuts. (great source of polyunsaturated fatty acids)
- WATER, WATER, WATER! (at least 8 cups a day)
You may not know what all these sources may do for you, but long story short, they will lower the cholesterol in your blood and help you reach your long term goals.
There are tons and tons of exercise methods out there, and it would be quite biased for me to choose one for you to use. It really depends on your personal preference. The main thing that you need to understand is that staying active is key to keeping your cholesterol low.
If these steps aren’t enough for you, then you may want to consider using certain types of medication. Although I do not recommend starting with them, they will definitely help you reach your goal if you are having trouble. Also, please, for your own sake, do NOT smoke. Smoking will lower your GOOD cholesterol and that isn’t what you want, is it?
I hope these methods work for you, as they did for me. Good luck!
