Being beautiful doesn’t have to be hard, and it doesn’t require following hot makeup trends or spending a fortune on products. Here’s how to feel pretty, in seven simple steps anyone can afford:
1. Be Kind to Others
A person’s attitude can completely change her face. When you treat others gently and with compassion, your facial muscles relax, your breathing slows, and you radiate good energy. You look more beautiful, and you feel more peaceful.
2. Make Time for Yourself
It’s easy to feel like you have to say ‘yes’ whenever people ask you to do things, but you need time for yourself, too. A stressed person who feels like her needs don’t matter is not a beautiful person, and in the long run, she’s not a person who will have anything to give to others, either. Take time each day– even if it’s only five or ten minutes before you go to sleep– to relax and put yourself first.
3. Work With What You Have
We tend to idealize the traits we don’t have, rather than appreciating those we do. Enjoy having thick, curly hair that begs to be touched, or love having straight, silky hair that’s easy to manage. Be proud of your sexy curves, or show off your sleek angles. Look for beauty role models who share your body shape, hair type, or facial features, rather than comparing yourself to someone who’s rocking a completely different kind of good looks.
4. See Yourself More Objectively
When you look in the mirror, instead of focusing on everything you think is wrong, pretend that you’re looking at a good friend or a future version of your daughter. Now, imagine her telling you she thinks she’s ugly. What would you say? Chances are, you’ll suddenly see everything that’s beautiful about her.
5. Put Your Health First
Your face is one of the first places where health problems show up, from the paleness you get when you’re fighting a cold to the dark circles that show up when you’re not sleeping well. To look more beautiful, prioritize your health before looking for cosmetic solutions. Get enough rest, drink water, exercise when you can, and try to eat a healthful diet. You’ll start looking prettier right away, and you’ll feel better, too.
6. Stand Up Straight
When you use good posture, you breathe better, move more gracefully, and look more confident– all of which are huge beauty boosts. Keep your shoulders back, your stomach in, and your chin level with the ground.
7. Take Care of Your Skin
Pampering your skin is a great way to look beautiful and to prevent premature aging. At a minimum, protect your skin from the sun and use a good-quality moisturizer (which doesn’t have to be expensive!) designed for your skin type. For extra credit, try adding a daily eye cream and a weekly mud mask. Keep foundations as lightweight as possible to allow skin to breathe.
