With warmer weather here, it’s time to put away winter coats and sweaters. So, how can you transition from the still cool mornings into the warmer daytime hours of Spring? One of the simplest and most affordable ways is to introduce a springtime pink lip or nail color. Pink will cheer up those winter whites and grays, not to mention your mood. If pink isn’t your color, try coral. Coral not only will brighten your outfit, it will actually give your teeth the appearance of being whiter. Consider using a powder bronzer to tell the world you don’t just look forward to warmer weather, you EMBRACE it! Bobbi Brown makes a killer bronzer powder in several different tones for every skin color (seven, to be exact!).
With scarves being a very popular, they are another inexpensive option. And bonus! Scarves can be found everywhere, most with price reductions. I recently found a lightweight (perfect for Spring) scarf with a soft gray background and pale yellow dots with a natural fringed edge at the Gap (whose stores routinely have in store only specials) for 40% off the already reduced price for Gap cardholders. And scarves aren’t just for around the neck. They make a wonderful accessory tied around the hips over a longer t-shirt with jeans or shorter dress with opaque leggings.
Every woman’s wardrobe should have a denim jacket. They are perfect almost year round. Pair a denim jacket with any t-shirt style dress with bare legs and cowboy boots for a fun look. It will take the chill off those early morning temperatures and can be shed as the day (and the temperature) progresses! Denim jackets can be dressed up, depending on your accessories. Have faux or real pearl earrings? This feminine look speaks volumes about the ease in which you carry yourself.
On a tight budget with no wiggle room? Take a pair of your favorite jeans and make them into capris! Capris can be anywhere from just below the knee to mid-shin. Simply cut them into the length you like (longer if you plan to cuff them), then using a needle and thread or iron on hemming tape, you have just created a brand new look without spending a dime! You can do the same thing to any slim or straight legged pants. And capris? They look great with a denim jacket, too!
Something often overlooked as a wardrobe accessory is your hair style and color. If you’ve been dying to try out a new, shorter ‘do, now’s the time! And forget what they say about diamonds. Highlights are a girl’s best friend! Make sure you bring a photo or two of your preferred styles and possible color choices to show your stylist. Let them know in advance that you’ll need time for a consultation. If budget is a concern, let them know that, too. A high maintenance haircut that needs to be trimmed often or heavy highlights that will leave you dreading your decision as they grow out are not for you.
Have a “swap out” party with your best girl friends. Ask everyone to bring gently worn accessories that they have grown tired of to the party to “swap out”! Do you have a friend who has fabulous taste? Don’t be shy! Have her come over to do a makeover of your closet and put together outfits from your existing wardrobe. She’ll be flattered you asked her for advice, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what a fresh pair of eyes can do. Best advice? Be creative and have fun! You’ll look amazing!
