Classes aren’t set in stone in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, but you can build your character toward various archetypes. The rogue archetype is a master of stealth attacks and ranged attacks. Characters of this type have a lot of passive skills and tend to deal damage quickly and efficiently. The following guide will help you build a strong rogue archetype character.
Destiny – The destinies that only require rogue skills to obtain provide bonuses to ranged damage, piercing attack, and stealth attacks. This means that if you want to best take advantage of the destiny, you should use a bow and invest in the stealth skill.
Weapons – Rogues have three primary weapons: faeblades, daggers, and bows. Faeblades and daggers are melee weapons and bows are ranged weapons. Faeblades deal moderate damage in an area around the rogue, while daggers deal high damage to a single target. Since you can only meaningfully wield two weapons at a time, you should focus on two of the three. If you choose to focus on faeblades and daggers you will gain additional benefits from the Precise Weaponry abilities and have greater flexibility with your melee attacks. If you focus on the bow and a melee weapon, you will gain high benefits from your destiny. All three combinations are good options for a rogue.
Passive Abilities – All of the passive abilities are good for rogues, so you will probably want to max out all of them, except for ones that boost a weapon you aren’t using. Faeblade Mastery is a 2nd tier skill, so if you are using faeblades then you will have to wait until at least level 3 to start training that. If you like to use sneak attacks, pick up assassin’s art early, because the damage boost is very helpful at low levels. The only passive ability you might choose to skip is Mysterious Toxins because the benefit is hard to use. Also, it is important to note that all bow abilities, including passives, increase your quiver size by one when your purchase the first level.
Sustained Abilities – Envenomed Edge and Blade Honing are both excellent abilities and the second is absolutely critical if you are using both daggers and faeblades. You should put points into these abilities as soon as they become available.
Active Abilities – The Precise Weaponry set of abilities only boosts daggers and faeblades, so if you are using a bow as one of your two weapons, you may want to put these off for a bit. Shadow Flare is a respectable area attack early in the game and very helpful if you aren’t using faeblades. Smoke Bomb is absolutely critical if you are focusing on sneak attacks because it will allow you to perform sneak attacks after a battle has commenced. At the final tier you may want to consider Gambit if you don’t have any good area attacks yet, though it isn’t particularly impressive.
