For more than 10 years the email program that I used almost exclusively was Outlook Express. This Microsoft email program has been the default email program on all three of the computers I have owned and I have really enjoyed using it. Within the past couple of months however I have been utilizing Yahoo Mail and as of a couple of weeks ago, Google Gmail in place of Outlook Express.
A few months ago my Outlook Express email program began having problems sending and receiving messages and I had to call my server’s technical support team for assistance. After finding out that technical support besides providing Settings numbers is no longer being offered for Outlook Express I decided to finally open a free Google Gmail account.
Starting a free Google Gmail account has been on my mental ‘to-do’ list for several years and I kept putting-off doing it. For some reason I thought it would be a time-consuming endeavor but that proved to be wrong. The process of starting an account took only a few minutes for me to accomplish.
When you want to start a free Google Gmail account the first thing to do is go to google.com. Look at the top of the page where you will see a line going across which contains the Search, Images, Maps and other options including Gmail.
Click where it says ‘Gmail’. A new page will open which explains some of the features offered by Gmail as well as the Sign In box. At the top of the page are the words ‘New to Gmail ?’ next to a little box that reads ‘Create An Account’.
Click on the ‘Create An Account’ box which will open another page containing little boxes where you fill-in your name, username, password, birthday, gender, mobile phone number, country location and email address.
After you’ve entered your information click on the box where it reads ‘Next Step’. This will bring you to another page which welcomes you and lists your Gmail email address. On that page there is another little box which reads ‘Continue to Gmail’. Click on that box and it will bring you to your new Google Gmail account.
At that point you can begin sending and receiving email messages.
Google Gmail offers tons of free storage space to hold lots of messages and it blocks spam messages. Gmail is secure using HTTPS encryption and can be accessed from any phone.
If you install a voice and video chat plug-in you can make and receive telephone calls by using Google Gmail. You can also place a voice or video call from your computer to another computer.
So far, I’ve been using Google Gmail as a backup email program to Yahoo Mail. As soon as I could use the Gmail I sent a message to myself and it was delivered quickly. The Gmail program is sensibly designed and is easy to use.
