As leaves drop from the trees and a frost takes the place of the once only chilly mornings of fall, you are sure to know that winter has arrived. The beginning of the holiday season is often filled with family, friends, shopping, and perhaps even travel; However, winter can also be a time when outdoor activities are limited, and filling the days and evenings becomes a challenge. But there is good news! There are many indoor activities to keep winter boredom at bay, and a time tested favorite is ice skating. There are several Missouri area rinks that are guaranteed to be a welcome diversion from staying at home.
Washington Park Ice Arena

This arena, situated in the small city of Jefferson City, MO boasts several options for skating and hockey lessons for children, teens and adults, in addition to several ice recitals each year. Of course, the arena is also available to recreational skaters for the low cost of $4 for adults and $3 for youth aged 17 and under. Hours vary and are divided into sessions each day, so check with the arena before planning an outing. Washington Park Arena is also available for rental for for birthday parties for the low cost of $125 for 10 guests or $175 for 15 guests. 1.5 hours of ice time, snacks,skate rental, and a custom made cake are included.
Steinberg Skating Rink

Steinberg Skating rink is located outdoors in the beautiful Forest Park in St. Louis. The 2012-2013 season begins November 16th, 2012 and ends the last day of February, 2013. Admission for all ages is $6, and skate rental is $4. Season passes and 10 visit passes are able to be purchased for $120 and $48, respectively. Hours of operation are 10AM until 9PM and Midnight, on weekends. Several holiday events such as “Skating With Santa” and a New Years Eve party are also part of Steinberg Skating Rink’s plans for this season, so be sure to check their website for further information.
Mediacom Ice Park

This large, indoor ice park offers something for every age and skill of skater. There are numerous classes to improve skating skill , learn figure skating, or even learn how to play hockey that are offered at various times of the year. Public skating and recreational hockey skating (team practices or competitions are not allowed) is available all year around. Mediacom Ice Park also offers the option of renting the facility for birthday parties; A party for 20 guests is $165 and includes a private room, pizza, soda, and a skating session. For smaller groups, there is a party package for 10 guests which is $90, which is also all-inclusive. Larger groups or parties should call the facility to see if they can be accomodated.
