When you’re a crafting person, and unless you have an unlimited bank account, there are some days where you can make substantial things for your home, and other days where you’re twisting together pipe cleaners. If you have the means and the money, you might find yourself making a new patchwork quilt for your bed. On another day, you might see that creating something new from a pop bottle is the best you can afford. Still, it’s important that you keep on crafting. Making new things keeps your creative side in tune, relieves stress, provides new things for you and your family, and earns you praises from others. Is today a pipe cleaner and soda bottle day? Leave those where they are and give yourself an uplifting moment by picking up a rock. You won’t need money to create a new home accent that will offer you years of uplifting moments.
It can be hard to find an absolutely perfect rock. They all seem to have uneven shapes and pieces jutting out. But if you find a nice rock in your own yard, great. If not, you can purchase a single rock at a craft store, a home improvement store, or even at a rock quarry. Although any rock – no matter its imperfections – can be made into an inspirational rock, it will be so much prettier if it’s a near-perfect rock. Choose a small rock and make a desk plaque, or opt for a large rock, and make a nice home accent for your deck or yard.
It’s not a new concept to write or draw on a rock – that practice goes back for millions of years. But now you have so many different ways to write, draw, color, or otherwise make an image or saying on a rock. And, if you order a home accent rock – many places sell them – your choices are usually limited to inspirational words, or the traditional “Love” and “Peace”. But when you make a special rock, it can be meant to encourage you to continue going on, despite the odds. Or, it can be a memorial to a passed loved one. It can even be a dog rock, made in honor of the breed that you own.
When you start with a clean, dry rock, your choices are many for decorating it. Use a permanent marker, or paint marker, to make a handwritten, inspirational sentence or two. Or, just make a set of letters as a monogram. Tape a stencil to the rock and you can quickly make a lighthouse, a particular vehicle, a floral scene, or a kid-theme design.
Besides writing on the rock you can also use a sticker. Select a clear-back sticker and simply stick it to the rock. Online, you can find a sticker with any theme, or even design your own. Coat the sticker with a layer of clear-coat to protect it. A rock is such a simplistic thing but, if it’s one of those no-go craft days, you’ll be back in the crafting game, and end up with a beautiful and inspirational home accent.
