Many people suffer from anxiety; oftentimes, women who didn’t graduate from high school, are divorced, or have lost a spouse through death will have fears and trepidations about how they will survive. Anxiety is no respecter of persons; anyone rich or poor can suffer from anxiety. Self-hypnosis is a tool that can relieve anxiety in a lot of people.
I talked with my daughter about her anxiety. I interviewed her for this article about the things that cause her to have such anxiety. Please see this interview now:
Me: Hi Kimberly, thanks for letting me interview you for Yahoo Voices.
Kimberly: Thank you. If it will help any readers out there, I’m glad to talk about my life.
Me: Can you tell us what causes you anxiety?
Kimberly: I have fears about being left in this world alone. I don’t have any skills, and the thought of being alone to fend for myself is very scary.
Me: You aren’t alone, so can you elaborate a bit on that?
Kimberly: I mean, when and if you and my husband die before I do. I know you will probably die before I do, and there is a good chance my husband will die before me. Men often die before their wives do, and that is one of the things I am so frightened of.
Me: Is there anything else that concerns you?
Kimberly: Yes, there is. We will be moving in a few weeks. It’s exciting to move into our new home, but I am sad to leave this house. This is where my husband’s grandmother lived. This is where my dog, Ivan, is buried.
Me: Yes, it is stressful to move; even if that move is a positive thing, it can add to your anxiety level. Did your doctor suggest anything to help reduce your anxiety?
Kimberly: Yes, he suggested that I use self-hypnosis. He taught me how to do it and taught my husband to help me with it until I can do it on my own.
Me: Is there anything else you would like to say about your feelings?
Kimberly: Yes, I was very concerned about leaving Ivan. He is buried in our back yard. I’m glad that I’ve been given permission to come to visit him any time I want to. I know that his spirit is gone from his grave, but I still want to visit and keep his grave clean. I know he will be with me every time I think of him.
Me: Is there anything else you would like to say to the reader?
Kimberly: I’m learning how to settle myself down with the self-hypnosis. It helps me to just let go a little so I can take one day at a time. It doesn’t do me any good to sit here and worry about what might happen, when that is not anything I have to face now. The self-hypnosis helps me to let the stress leave my body. I can feel it move out of my body. I can now focus on what I do have and not worry about what I don’t have. I have a lot to be thankful for. I have you, and I have a great husband whom I adore. My life is full of happiness. When the anxiety comes I will use the techniques I’ve learned so I can be happy with my life and not look back.
Me: Can you tell the reader how to self-hypnotize?
Kimberly: It’s really just deep relaxation. I lie down and will the stress to leave me and flow down through my feet and out of my body. I purposely relax every part of my body starting from my feet on up. It really helps to lower my anxiety. I have actually defused an anxiety attack that was coming on to me.
We are all human and we all have things that bother us. Some of us suffer from anxiety to the point where we can’t hold a job or do much of anything. Self-hypnosis isn’t a quick fix for everything, but it can help to change how you react to the stressors in your life.
