“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV
There are 13 Articles of Faith in the Mormon religion. The Articles of Faith were written by the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith. Here is some of what the article says relative to salvation.
Article One says the following:
“We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.”
This sound apropos but this does not mean Mormons see The Father, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit as The Holy Trinity. Christians believe that Trinity is a Godhead of God the Father, God-The Son, and God- the Holy Spirit.
Article Three presents a contradiction to the Christian core beliefs. Where it how it reads:
“We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.”
The Bible says no one can be declared righteous by observing The Law. Consider what Apostle Paul says in Galatians 2:16. The assertion of Article 3 does not agree with the scriptures. The scripture reads.
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”
Article Eight is problematic because Mormons don’t believe The Word of God has been translated correctly. This article reads as follows:
“We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.”
There is a difference in justification by works and justification by faith. Mormons however, do believe Joseph Smith was divinely inspired by God to write the Book of Mormons.
Christians believe The Bible is the infallible Word of God.
There is an interesting article written by a former Mormon. The article is called, “Ten Lies I Told as a Mormon Missionary, by Loren Franck. She said that some of the lies were small and some were grandiose.
The first lie said this. “We’re not trying to convert you.”
The second said, “The Bible is insufficient.” This corresponds with Article 8, where Mormons don’t think the Bible is the infallible Word of God.
The third and fourth point made in the article says that Mormons are the only true Christians and the only true Church. They believe the Book of Mormons is true scripture and Mormons can become gods when they die. Mormons believe you can be saved by works.
