Halloween is coming quickly. Getting just the right costume can be a major chore. Intricate costumes can take weeks or months to put together. If you don’t have the time to buy or make a costume, here are a few costume ideas you can make quickly and easily.
Zombie – Shows like The Walking Dead have made this costume idea particularly popular. You might need to buy some gray makeup, but you can even avoid that with some creative shopping at a food store. If you don’t mind wearing avocado spread on your face, that will work just as well for skin tone as will dirt or mud. Beyond skin tone, any outfit will do as long as it is torn or tattered. Old work clothes work great for this and any sort of outfit for any profession is acceptable.
Dr. Who – This one is almost too easy. Raid your grandpa’s closet and you can probably put together a Dr. Who costume in minutes. There have been 11 distinct Doctors who have all dressed differently. In general though, if you have any clothing that is somewhat old fashioned and can speak in a British accent, you can replicate one of the Doctors.
Halloween Parody – A Halloween parody costume is so easy you should feel dirty making one. Usually it involves wearing a completely normal looking outfit and then one prop that makes a statement. For example, dressing in nice slacks and a sweater and wearing a small badge that says “Serial Killer”, is an example of a Halloween parody costume. Other props like knives, guns, giant lollipops, or teddy bears can work equally well with a costume that doesn’t match.
Uniforms – If you have ever played a sport, went to a Catholic or boarding school, work in the right field, or been part of the military, it is simplistically easy to wear a uniform as a costume. The uniform is all you need to indicate who and what you are. If you are active military or currently working in said field, you might want to switch outfits with an equally unmotivated friend so that you are actually in a costume.
A Friend – This particular costume only really works for Halloween parties. Pick a friend and dress as them for your costume. Fix your hair to look like theirs and steal some clothes from their closet, especially if they tend to wear anything distinctive. If you can mimic their demeanor well, you should be the hit of the party.
Cross Dress – This tends to work better for men than for women, but either gender can pull it off. Simply raid the closet of a relative of the other gender, preferably one similar in size. Wedding dresses and tuxes are especially good choices because they are likely to be clean and are distinctive items that belong to the other gender.
