When teaching your class about the letter K it is important to have the right kind of materials. Here are some great activities to use in your classroom all about the letter K. Your students will love them.
Letter K Activities
A great letter K activity is a kangaroo hop relay. Divide your students into two teams. Have them line up on one side of a large field and place a marker at the other side. When you say go have the first student in each line hop to the marker at the opposite side of the field and back. Then they tag the next person in line to do the same thing. The first team that has all their players back wins the game.
Another variation to the game above is to give the first two students in line a plastic bag to use as a pouch. They must then hop to the other side of the playing field where there are different letters of the alphabet. They must pick out the letter K, place it in their pouch, hop back to the start, and tag the next person in line.
Another great activity is to make shell koalas. Give each student one large shell and two very small shells. Help them glue the small shells onto the top of large shell while it’s lying flat. These will be the ears. Then give them other materials such as small beads, glitter, or anything else on hand to decorate their koala to give it features such as eyes.
A third great activity is to make kites. Give each of your students two dowel rods (or sticks) and some tissue paper. Have them tape the tissue paper to the dowel rods. Then they can decorate the tissue paper using markers or even paint. Make sure if they use paint that you have enough time for it to dry before trying to fly the kites. Next attach a very long string to the kite. Then your class can go outside on a windy day and try to fly them.
Letter K Field Trips
A great idea for a field trip is to go to your local animal rescue or zoo to see the koalas. You might even be able to have someone talk to your class about these animals and even get hands on experience depending on the place. Your students will love being able to see these amazing animals up close, and it makes for a great learning experience.
Another great idea for a field trip is to go to a kite shop. Your students can learn how kites are made. They can also learn some exciting facts about them and even purchase one if they bring money. This would be a great field trip to do before making kites back in your classroom.
Teaching the letter K to your students doesn’t have to be hard. With these activities it is even simpler. With these activities your students will learn all about the letter K and have a great time while learning. So try out these fun and exciting activities in your classroom really soon. You will not be disappointed and neither will your students.
